The Tennessee Titans officially selected Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first pick in the 2025 NFL draft to replace Will Levis as the new face of the franchise.
The selection caps a meteoric rise for Ward from zero-star recruit to a No. 1 overall pick. Starting in 2020 in the FCS with Incarnate Word, he moved to Washington State in 2022 and then to Miami in 2024, producing at every level. His 158 career touchdowns stand as an NCAA Division I record. The 2024 Davey O'Brien Award winner as the nation's best quarterback is poised to make an impact in the NFL with the Titans.
Ward comes to Nashville off a tremendous season, during which he set the Miami single-season record with 4,313 passing yards and led the nation with 39 touchdowns.
Big and athletic, he checks in at 6-foot-2, 219 pounds and ran 4.64 in the 40. While he didn’t work out at the combine, he put on a show at his Pro Day, with his elite arm talent on full display.
There is also a lot to like about his game as he enters the NFL. Throughout his career, he has shown himself to be an accurate passer at all levels while maintaining composure in the face of adversity. Ward has grown at every stop and is a natural leader with elite traits. More of a pocket passer than a running quarterback, he can create on the move and can be a dangerous playmaker.
While there is a lot to be excited about with Ward, he can still get better and has a high ceiling. The biggest knock on Ward entering the league was his mechanics, where he often relied too much on his elite arm talent instead of setting his feet. He also has some ball security issues that he needs to address to protect the ball, which stem from his gunslinger mentality. However, none of these detracts from his overall potential.
Ward has all of the skills to develop into a top-tier quarterback in the NFL, and Titans fans should be excited about his chances to usher in a new era in Nashville.
