The Texans beat writer has said repeatedly that the Texans would like to get up into the top 5 to get either Von Miller or Patrick Peterson.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-trade-up-for-von-miller-or-patrick-peterson/

the most likely scenario cited moving up to #5 to get Peterson.

The price to go from #11 to #5 per trade value charts --- #11 plus #42 (Texans 2nd) comes within 30 points (to the Cards favor). Lets say the Texans are anxious enough to pay that price.

So, as the Cards GM -- lets say the first four off the board are Newton, Dareus, Miller and AJ Green. Do you pull the trigger on that trade?

Hells yes. And then I may even try to move again to get into the mid- to late-first in a position to take Ayers.

No, take Peterson and move on. Unless they are planning on taking Kaepernick or Mallett with one of those 2nd round picks.

Absolutely. I bet you could get them to throw in their 7th too.

There are going to be plenty of first-round talents that slip into the second...especially at wide receiver, a position that it seems the Cards (or at least their mouthpieces) may have been dropping hints they could draft.

Also, at 11 is where teams may want to move up to get Locker, JJ Watt or Jimmy Smith or Tyron Smith (or maybe Amakumura or Quinn if they're still there....though if Quinn is there I'd argue they should stay pat and draft him).

with multiple teams interested in what many consider the top player in the draft I would want their 4th as well...

#11, #42, and #105

Yesterday when this story broke I the more I thought about it, the more I I had that pit in my stomach that Peterson is worth more than the #42 player and #11 player combined... HE is special...

So in the end, if they come with a Godfather offer (IE #11, 3rd round 2011, 2012 1st round pick) than I do it... Otherwise I am starting to lean toward staying pat if Peterson/Miller is there...

Make them give up their 1st pick next year. Maybe their 1st this year, 3rd this year, and 1st next year and I would make that deal.

Your have to look at the team you're trading with too. Next years first from Houston will not be as attractive as next years first with say Tennessee. If we get Houston's first next year that pick very well may be in the mid to late twenties. They are a player or two away from being a very good team. They only way I stock pile next years first round picks is to move up to one to get Luck and a top 15 and 20 something. pick may not be enough to get it done.

There should be a few offers for the pick. They'll take the best obviously. Some may include picks for next yr.

Two 1sts would offset the round 2nd round pick we'd get from this yr. If they were to throw in this yrs. 3rd TOO, that would be a steal.

Two first next yr. could go a long way in enticing a team for the rights to Luck.

As discussed in another series yesterday, it is a seller's market, meaning that is not nearly enough compensation for the Cardinals. Anything short of getting the acquirer's #1 pick next year is insufficient. Given that PP7 is considered one of four (with Dareus, Green, and Miller) elite players in this draft, I stay put and take him.

I agree. You can start with that trade down, and go from there if you wish.

Yup. Take the best trade offered. I'd also want assurance that the team that trades with the Cards are going to take Peterson. I wouldn't want to make the trade, have Peterson slip to where the Niners can grab him and then have him burn us for years to come.

If we take the trade and move down...UNDERSTAND you are HANDING the 49ers PP7.

Do we want to have to face him for the next 4 years?

I say NO!

You can have PP7 with you or against you....ask any WR going against LSU whom did they NOT want to see on the other side of them.....

Answer: PP7

There's a reason he has a nickname of PP7....it's because he's that GOOOOOD!!!!

This is what I don't get. If PP7 is so special that four teams are willing to give up a future 1st plus a current 3rd or 2nd to get him, then you should really reconsider your own evaluation of the guy.

If we get another third we'd have two chances at the next Buster Davis/Early Doucet (a player I like a lot, but still)/Rashad Johnson/Andre Roberts! Yay! If we get another second we could get the next Alan Branch or Cody Brown! Woot! Woot!

agreed.

the only reason we possibly do something like this is if that extra 2nd rounder were gonna be used to secure a Kolb... that i could live with... being able to get someone with the 11th pick, Kolb and keeping our second rounder could significantly upgrade the team... however, considering the CBA is still up in the air and we can't trade for Kolb with one of this year's pick, that point's null and void.

skipping on elite talent so we can trade back to draft more questionable guys being picked by questionable talent evaluators sounds like a horrible idea to me.

All the more reason for the Cards no to screw around and take PP. When you're drafting 5 take the bpa. CB may not be a pressing need, but it is a need. This is a deep defensive draft, they can always pick up a lb in the later rounds. If they draft Quinn and leave Peterson out there for the 9ers I'm going to be ripped. I hope this team stays away from Quinn.

I agree. I don't agree with the trade, but I think they might ask for Houston's 2012 1st and use that to trade for Kolb.
