I agree. I don't agree with the trade, but I think they might ask for Houston's 2012 1st and use that to trade for Kolb.

that's the only way i make that deal... but is houston really going to give up two numbers for Peterson?

I would think that this years 2nd would be comparable to next years 1st. Is there a chart for this sort of thing?

I thought trading next years picks wasn't an option for teams this year?

you can trade them -- with the understanding that there is theoretically no guarantee that there will be a draft as we know it next year. So buyer beware.

This is what I don't get. If PP7 is so special that four teams are willing to give up a future 1st plus a current 3rd or 2nd to get him, then you should really reconsider your own evaluation of the guy.

If we get another third we'd have two chances at the next Buster Davis/Early Doucet (a player I like a lot, but still)/Rashad Johnson/Andre Roberts! Yay! If we get another second we could get the next Alan Branch or Cody Brown! Woot! Woot!

You just nailed it! It takes waaaay more faith in Rod Graves than I will ever have to trade away PP7 for the next worthless linebacker he drafts in the 2nd or 3rd round. With Ray Horton and our new DB coach on board, the Cardinals should have the coaching staff to coach up PP7 and maximize the guy's talent. Just the punt return yardage he could add would make the decision a no-brainer IMO.

They might. Houston has everything you need to win in the NFL in place except a decent secondary. Peterson, especially in a Division with Manning, could put them over the top.

But being in Texas and following that poor team I really believe they are the Cardinals of the AFC. No matter what they do it won't work out.

I'm guessing they'll be competing with SF at #7, Tennessee at #8 and Washington at #10 who all may be bidding for the right to draft Gabbert.

If our scouting dept. feels that our Top 11 players are close enough in talent, I could see us trading down with Houston at #11 if the price were right.

No doubt SF may be eyeing Gabbert, but I don't see ourselves trading within the division.

What SF does represent, however, is an "incentive" for the other teams seeking to trade up to leapfrog #7 (into #6 or higher) in order to pre-empt the Niners from grabbing Gabbert.

All of which means - Gabbert could be taken anywhere from (probably #2 on down depending on who makes the trade. The Cards could be in the thick of it or we could either (a) be leapfrogged or (b) simply decide to pass and take someone we really want at #5.

But it does open up a lot of options - all of them good from a Cardinal standpoint.

I can't see giving up a chance at 1 of 4 elite prospects in this draft to move down with the positions that this draft is strong in. If you move back to 11 you would have to take either Prince Amukamara, Tyron Smith, Anthony Castonzo, Cam Jordan or JJ Watt. Talent wise, those are the top players on the board. You almost have to take Prince because he is the only other top talent at CB in the draft other than Jimmy Smith who comes with other red flags. You don't reach for Kerrigan, especially with all the conversion talent that will be there at the top of the 2nd round. You already have money tied up at DE, and you don't pass on the top defensive player in the draft to take a sub 3-4 DE. The only other option is tackle because you just won't have a chance at one of the top ones in the 2nd round, but it is also a pretty average offensive tackle class.

My question for anyone who wants to trade back is what is so good at 11 that you would pass up on arguably the top defensive player in the entire draft, who plays a position that, unlike 3-4 OLB, there really isn't a ton of depth at in the draft? If it's Amukamara, be ready to trade back up to get him because other teams are out for him as well. I hate to be the downer, but I just don't see 10 other players that I like even remotely close to Patrick Peterson.

When asked if PP7 is as talented as Revis or Deon or Scrabble or Woodson I keep hearing the experts say no. They love him but he isn't as good as those mentioned above. Why is he considered one of the top 4 players in this draft?

speed & size combination; return skills; Charles Woodson comparisons; instant starter; the premium on cover-corners in today's pass-happy NFL;

I'm starting to think Buffalo may take him at #3 and Miller drops to us.

1) Soft draft.

2) PP7 just doesn't compare to Champ Bailey or Deon or Nmandi. Those are pure cover corners. Peterson compares most closely to Charles Woodson, but Woodson is a borderline Hall of Famer, and it's hard to say that about any prospect coming out in the draft.

The other thing is that you could make this same statement about Sam Bradford last year:

When asked if Bradford is as talented as Peyton Manning or John Elway or Drew Brees or Ben Roethlisberger I keep hearing the experts say no. They love him but he isn't as good as those mentioned above. Why is he considered one of the top 4 players in this draft?

To be a Top 5 pick, you don't have to be better than the Elite players already in the NFL; you have to be better than the other 250 guys in your draft class.
