The Houston Texans have made Derek Stingley Jr. the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history per Adam Schefter. The former LSU cornerback who made waves during the 2019 CFP title run for the Tigers was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2022 NFL draft.

Stingley is coming off his first All-Pro season with the Texans. He tallied five interceptions in 2024 matching his career-high set the season prior. Stingley also added 54 tackles, 4.0 TFLs, and 18 passes defended. The Texans wanted to make sure that they locked up their shutdown cornerback for the time being. His initial rookie contract was set to run through the end of the 2025 NFL calendar year but this keeps him in Houston.

Record deal: Texans All-Pro CB Derek Stingley Jr has agreed to a three-year, $90 million extension including $89 million guaranteed. At $30M base value per year, Stingley is now the highest paid defensive back in NFL history. The CB market has been completely reset.
