Even though it's only a three-hour drive away from NRG Stadium, the Houston Texans' visit to Austin could have speculation around multiple players who could be joining the squad next fall.
Both Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans and general manager Nick Caserio were on sight for Texas' Pro Day at the Longhorns' training facility on Tuesday afternoon. While Quinn Ewers likely won't be suiting up for Houston next fall, the team had eyes on offensive tackle Kelvin Banks, wide receiver Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond, running back Jaydon Blue tight end Gunnar Helm, defensive linemen Barryn Sorrell and Alfred Collins, defensive back Andrew Mukuba and cornerback Jahdae Barron.
The first three names are the ones Texans fans should be paying close attention to entering next month's draft in Green Bay. Golden and Banks both have been considered Day 1 options for the Texans at pick No. 25 while Bond could be in play with one of the three mid-round picks on Friday night.
Bond, who posted a 4.39 40-time in Indianapolis at the combine, improved his numbers with a 4.35 at Texas' Pro Day. It's nowhere near Xavier Worthy's 4.21 speed, a record he predicted to break, but Bond proved that his hamstring tightness did shave off several seconds of his natural speed.
Golden, who served as the Longhorns' No. 1 option in the passing game last season, is projected to be a first-round pick, with some believing he could be the first receiver selected somewhere in the mid-teens. He posted the fastest 40-time among all offensive players at 4.28 and dazzled during drills during the Longhorns' Pro Day.
As the days inch closer, Banks' draft stock continues to dwindle. A once sure-fire top-10 pick, Banks has fallen into the late teens and early 20s of most mock drafts. A three-year starter at left tackle for the Longhorns amid two College Football Playoff runs, Banks, a native of Houston, could very well transform into Laremy Tunsil's replacement for 2025 and beyond.
Blue, who recorded a 4.28 and 4.29 40-time in his two attempts during drills on Tuesday, is expected to meet with the Texans as one of the team's local draft visits. He's a quality receiving threat and a solid No. 3 runner who would provide depth for the running back room long-term as a Day 3 pick.
Sorrell and Collins, who anchored a stout run defense, are expected to be late Day 2 or early Day 3 picks. It's unclear if the Texans will host either, but the duo could provide needed depth at defensive tackle with three players entering contract seasons.
The 2025 NFL draft will be held in Green Bay at Lambeau from April 24-26.
