Steve Slaton finished sixth in the NFL in rushing yards during his rookie season in 2008.

Just three seasons later, the Texans decided to let him go.

Multiple outlets report Slaton has been waived in favor of Chris Ogbannaya, who was promoted to the active roster. Slaton hasn’t been the same since a neck injury and always seemed better suited to a third-down role. He had 20 yards on seven carries.

Steve Slaton let go by Houston

Will the Cards go after him?

I rather the Cards steal Chris Uglybannana from the Texans practice squad.

What is the procedure for that anyway? I know the player has to go on the 53 man active roster but is there any compensation to the Texans or a minimum salary for the player?

I would sign him as soon as humanly possible. Beanie is hurting. Chester Taylor is done. It almost makes too much sense. Please, Cards, make the right move here.

Is Slaton better than Alphonso Smith at this point? I actually liked what I saw out of Smith.

really liked what I saw of smith on first downs... not so much any time after that.

that's what was so weird about that game. we seemed to consistently be getting positive yardage on first down and then going nowhere fast on 2nd and 3rd.

I'm still sick about losing Williams for the season. God that kid was looking so promising. C'est la vie!

The Texans cut Slaton to promote Ogbannaya to their active roster.

Yep watching the game Sunday really brought that back with Beanie out.

Williams would have been huge in that game.

Darn. Good for Chris, good for the Texans bad for us. Should have grabbed him when we had the chance.

Probably a better pass catcher than Smith at this point, but I am not sure he is anything more than that. He might be as limited as Chester Taylor but in the exact opposite way.

I highly doubt they will sign another RB.

Smith seems to offer more at this time and shouldn't LSH be back soon(this week?) to assume the 3rd down role. Taylor is done. He won't get 20 carries the rest of the year.

Hell yea, Slaton is the best available RB by far, including Taylor and Smith, by quite a distance!

I'd prefer Slaton to Taylor. Problem is that it will take Slaton at least a week or two to learn the playbook, and with Beanie/LSH still not fully healthy that's not a move you can make right now. If/When Beanie/LSH are healthy, this is a move I can see us making -- but who knows if another team suffers an RB injury and picks him up in the meantime.
