Tells me he has no input at all on any personnel decisions. Dead man walking.
Wouldn't surprise me if Wilks has already been told he will be let go at the end of the season. Denny Green knew he was gone, after his blow-up...Keim and Bidwill had a heart to heart with him and let him know to be a good soldier until the end of the season.

I think elevating Zane Gonzalez from the practice squad is a good move but it also feels like a hometown gesture towards fans.

There is a history behind that?
Only names coming to my mind are dj foster and scooby wright
And Foster is probably better then Edmonds

I don't think so. He was the best in the country in college. The time with Cleveland turned out bad but there was so much turmoil with the Browns that IMO he deserves another chance. Cards have nothing to lose at this point of the season. He could be a nice surprise.

I'm not trying to put history behind it.

As I said, I thought it was a good move as the Cardinals needed to move on from Dawson.

However, I think some of these moves are long overdue. It's not inconceivable Wilks is trying to appease an angry fan base as well.

Wilks has not been involved with any of the most recent personnel decisions. That should tell you something.

Wilks has been involved in recent personnel decisions. Maybe not Gonzales but certainly others.

Citing inconsistency issues and the need to take responsibility for the continued below-average play, coach Steve Wilks said releasing Taylor and now Smith and Benwikere was his decision and it was made in the best interest of the team.

“Coming in, you have expectations for those guys,” Wilks said. “… As the year has gone on, you’ve seen the inconsistency there. You can continue to sit there and allow that to happen and as a head coach, it’s my responsibility to try and do what’s best for this team and that’s the reason why I made the decisions.”

I mean... WHAT?!
Everyone is in saving their own ass mode. Wilks trying to distance himself from Keim on the personnel decisions. Keim trying to look like he's "coming out swinging" and keeping Wilks in the dark thus implying Wilks is incompetent (which he is).

Bidwill is the architect of this nonsense and needs to can them both on Black Monday.

Can he sell just the franchise?

I think this is right because up until this point, Wilks took full credit for every move. "I let McCoy go. I promoted Leftwich to OC." I noticed this as soon as he took over because it sounded kind of strange with player moves. I could have sworn BA always said 'We', as in these are Cardinal moves, not my moves.

Now for the first time, its "We made some moves today. We let Bene go as well as Andre Smith." He's caved.

Steve Wilks on why K Phil Dawson was put on IR with a hip injury: "I really don’t know the end factor of why he was actually put on IR. I don’t know how bad it was. I just know that’s what we ended up doing.”

Really!!?! REALLY STEVE!!!! He's running on autopilot and the autopilot is asleep.

That is ONE of (not the worst) the worst explanations of why a guy is on IR I've ever heard.

That's his call and his final signature that makes the IR happen.

Bye bye Steve

it is odd they go IR vs just releasing him.

as a vet, his annual salary is guaranteed --

on IR, he is stuck with AZ and cant be brought back (not enough weeks to designate for return)

cut -- free to sign with another team, and who knows -- maybe some team going to the playoffs loses their kicker and wants a vet like Dawson
