Lions | Thanksgiving Day tradition in jeopardy?
Fri, 26 Jan 2007 07:43:41 -0800

Vartan Kupelian and Mike O'Hara, of the Detroit News, report there has been speculation that the Detroit Lions might not play host to their traditional leadoff Thanksgiving Day game, an annual ritual they founded in 1934. Instead, the team could be moved to a night game, which premiered on the NFL Network last season, and holds a smaller viewing audience. Network officials might prefer a more attractive team than the Lions, who are on a six-year skid, to play in one of the first two games on Thanksgiving.

My turkey day won't be complete without watching the Lions. Won't the earth implode or something if a different team gets to play?

I never understood why that tradition was that important?

Cards/ Lions on Thanksgiving day this year. Let's see what kind of ratings that would draw.

The Valley so low.
I'd rather get rid of the Cowgirls game. I refuse to watch it--vomiting up my dinner is not an appealing end to Thanksgiving.

If you were a Lions fan and had this as your tradition, I think it would make more sense.

Having said that, I think Thanksgiving Day should feature top flight games as best as can be put together during the shedule-making process.

There is a ASU game scheduled for Thanksgiving this year. I wonder if the NCAA has negotiated a piece of the holiday pie? I won't miss the Lions or Cowboys, they needed dump this tradition long ago and move the games around the league.

It hasn't been the same since the Lions moved indoors. I used to enjoy the game more when it was Lions-Packers and played outdoors in the cold.

I still think that as long as the Cards and Lions are going to play each other every year they might as well have that as the TGiving day game.

I think it would be classic if they replaced the Cowboys on Thanksgiving with the Saints!

Think about it this way. Since it is turkey day, who better than the Lions and Cowboys?

Lions | Thanksgiving tradition to continue
Fri, 26 Jan 2007 10:11:00 -0800

Updating a previous report, Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports the Detroit Lions will continue their tradition of playing the leadoff Thanksgiving Day game despite speculation the league and it's owners would prefer a more appealing team in that time slot. The issue is not being discussed in league meetings and is not on the agenda to be discussed in future meetings.
