you know, maybe the packers should modernize their unis. yeah, just get rid of the G on the helmet and put an ANGRY and PISSED OFF packerman to make them cool! what a great idea! the browns should put a MEAN and ANGRY and PISSED OFF dog on their helmets and wear black! cause NO ONE wears black - no one at all! oh wait, all of the nfl-arena league teams do. this is just not right at all. i wish we could just win instead of trying to fool everybody with a new logo.
it.
See the problem with this is the Cards didnt dramatically change their helmets/logo. They tweeked the bird and i bet most people in the NFL don't really notice the difference. Its not like if the packers or browns drastically changed their stuff.

I agree with Denverbirdfan. To me this is not a minor tweaking. It looks like somebody put their hands on the top and bottom of the old logo and squeezed their hands together.

It looks like I am done buying merchandise. I will have to make what I got last.

Oh well, I guess you will just have to wait another 30 years before they change again. But then if they change the logo again...

What is actually funny about this post is that Browns introduced two new logo's a couple of years ago. One was a dog and the other a 'B' type design.

And who are the Cardinals trying to 'fool' exactly?

Funny you should mention that Browns' "dog" logo...a friend of mine designed that...it's intended to be used primarily for merchandising.

This same designer just finished designing the Washington Nationals logos and uniforms...

(lots of interesting stories regarding THAT process)

The new logo is either the old one smashed together or it looks like what would happen if the old logo got too hot and melted.

I swear some of you guys are acting like they just stole your wallet. I mean you can still wear the old logo if you want. I dont think they will ban it at the stadium or anything.

I think the key to understanding why some of the teams havent had to change logo is they were not a transplant team in the modern day. They have a base who could care less whether they had a pic of Bidwill naked on it, they have a history, we were not lucky enough to have that. And in a city made up of people from every city you have to compete some how to earn thier loyalty. obviously winning will do that, but I think that the a new slightly different look is a good way to shake the old image.. And as for teams that have had a huge history of winning, eagles, broncos ect, they have made drastic changes to thier logos..

If the Cardinals aren't immediately successfull any good will generated with the fickle Arizona market will evaporate. An empty stadium will result and the team will seriously be stigmatized by the losing image.

Please tell me they didn't color the helmet....

I'll have to purchase something with the new logo on it, of course. It will be handy to have around in case I ever need to induce vomiting.

I think the New Cardinals logo Is Beautiful. It gives me nothing but exciting aesthetic pleasure. But so did the pre 2005 logo. And as a collector of Cardinals logos , It means a lot more Cardinals stuff for me to get my hands on. :D

I'm all prepped to change the BRS design to correspond to the new design when it's official.

Are we positive the "squished" design depicted on this thread is the official design? Maybe it's an optical illusion, but I didn't recall it looking so squishy when used on the four teaser ads.

I agree with Andy, though, that the AZR design (which I erroneously thought was the official design) was awful.

i don't really like it. what would've been perfect would've been a return to the jerseys of the 80s. the black trim around the numbers. the elimination of the hideous blue and az state flag. it would've been nice to see the cards win the super bowl wearing those CLASSIC unis.

you know, maybe the packers should modernize their unis. yeah, just get rid of the G on the helmet and put an ANGRY and PISSED OFF packerman to make them cool! what a great idea! the browns should put a MEAN and ANGRY and PISSED OFF dog on their helmets and wear black! cause NO ONE wears black - no one at all! oh wait, all of the nfl-arena league teams do. this is just not right at all. i wish we could just win instead of trying to fool everybody with a new logo.

example: anybody flown on the airline called air tran? it used to be known as valujet. yeah, that's right - the airline that blew up 130 people in miami in 1997. they changed their name, painted their planes different - and voila!

i'll get on board - i'm a cards fan, i have no choice. but i really don't like it.

Completely agreed! Nothing bothers me more than teams changing (or twealing - whatever you want to call it) their logos. It's nothing more than a ploy to sell more merchandise.

What's wrong with that?

more sales = more money = better Free agents = winning

I can't believe the Yankees put pinstripes on their home uniforms. I mean come on, you cant mess with tradition. Why not just make Babe Ruth lose some weight?

Where was the outrage when we replaced the bird on the sleeves for the state flag? This was an obvious attempt by the Bidwill family to raise more money by associating the team with the entire state rather than just the Phoenix market.

If you prefer the "previous" logo, fine. I won't say original because there have been several changes, much more dramatic than we are looking at now, prior to the one we've know for the last thirty years.

IMO, the design change is exactly what I was looking for. A slight alteration that keeps the "soul" of the logo we have all become accustomed to. Great job by the organization.

Go Cards!!!

yeah but you are talking about the mid 70's compared to 2005. obviously there have been advancements in just about everything so you have to make a splash and today that usually means being flashy in some way

Look at the 49er stuff, every 49er fan I know thinks it looks bad, the logo, most seem to like the red uniform. But it hasn't hurt their merchandising sales until the last 2 years. My local paper was saying there's a decline on the season ticket waiting list, for 2 reasons, current ticket holders declining to renew, and people on the list pulling their name off.

Either a bunch of 49er fans suddenly don't like the logo, or a bunch of 49er fans are not happy with losing and are "off the bandwagon."

Anytime a team makes a big change it jumpstarts sales, because the hardcore fans go out and buy a new hat or jersey or sweatshirt, but a new logo isn't going to make the non fan buy it, but winning will.

Nothing...only that it's not true. Selling more merchandise isn't going to be the difference in signing a free agents.

I could not disagree more with this statement.. The other part I can understand.

there are plenty of people who buy jerseys strictly for the fashion. this is the hip hop nation and while it may be hard to sell a cardinal no matter what, it does happen.. believe that.

Since 1997, at least eight NFL teams have modified their logos and uniforms, according to the league.

The Cardinals' merchandise sales are among the worst in the NFL, but Bidwill said sales will pick up as the team becomes more competitive.

See my post right after yours quoting Michael Bidwill in essence saying exactly what I said.

Now yes if we can get 50 cent or Nelly to wear the new jersey in a video that would help sales.

Yes it does. More revenue means you are able to offer free agents more guaranteed money in signing bonuses, and that means more money up front. I am not a capologist, but I am sure someone will come along and break it down

well that is part of it no question, but trust me when I say this... there are plenty of people who buy jerseys just for the look. Once the start winning they THEN become fans and buy more
