We are 44-26 when Webb, Haren or RJ starts this year and 17-32 when they do not. In the playoffs we will ONLY see these three starting. These #'s are season long so they DO take into consideration RJ's slow start.

Interesting point. I hope you're right.

Though, losing Hudson hurts. I'd love to see him in the lineup with Dunn here now.

Make the playoffs, send Webb, Haren, Johnson to the mound, that could be good enough right there to win the NLDS. Mix Davis/Petit into one game in the NLCS and we could be looking at the same fate as last season in that round. Even so, you don't know until you actually make the playoffs. The D-backs must do that. Any defeatist talk of, "why bother, they'll just lose, anyway" is rubbish.

Good point. We we talking about just that after watching the Cards at Flagstaff.

That is a good point and a good observation. However, we need to be able to rely on at least our fourth starter, and DD hasn't been reliable all year. But, he's also had to deal with more important things than baseball, so I'm not angry at him at all.

I think this team is capable of doing some good things, but if we don't get at least a little more consistent, than getting to the WS sounds like a dream.

I agree with you. During our World Series year, Schilling started Games 1-4-7 (each with three days rest), but Randy started 2 and 6 (with four days rest).

Webb and RJ's effectiveness would be reduced to non-Championship caliber if they started with only three days rest through the post-season.

I, too, appreciate what Doug Davis has gone through. But that doesn't condone his disappointing performances.

I am hoping that Melvin will follow through on the quote from management that, when Wally Scherzer comes back, it will be as a starter. As I've posted before, before he was removed from the rotation earlier this season, he had the third lowest ERA of the starters.

Then, demoted to on-call in the bullpen, a tired arm and sore shoulder.

Despite the time lost, I believe that Wally Scherzer can be a good #4 starter behind Webb, Haren and Randy throughout the post-season.

Yes, I said Webb ahead of Haren, which is where he should be in the rotation. He's earned it. Especially if we don't want to see him walk when he can, now that Haren has been extended.

As usual, we could be a serious World Series threat in spite of Melvin's refusal to establish a status quo.

If Melvin sticks Scherzer back in the bullpen upon his return, all bets are off.

P.S.: 'Interesting that two days ago, Melvin said that Adam Dunn would be in the lineup every day at cleanup. Yesterday he said that he might platoon him with Upton when he returns (now that he's announced that he will keep Jackson in LF and Reynolds at 3B).

Here he goes again. I am very uncomfortable that the pitching rotation, bullpen and everyday lineup are in the hands of a man who evidently has Attention Deficit Disorder and is afraid to stick with a decision.

We won't have to worry about being a WS contender if we can't hold off the Dodgers.

We'd need a #4 to pitch in game 4 of a 7 game series but 1,2,3,5,6,7 would be pitched by Webb, Haren and RJ. Don't forget in a 7 game series there will be 2-3 days off for travel

1. Webb
2. Haren
3. RJ
4. ?
5. Webb
6. Haren
7. RJ

Right. If every series is in a 2-3-2 format, there will be a day off between games 2-3 and 5-6. Unless they are still doing 2-2-1-1-1 series. Or extra days off between some games for TV coverage.

And, of course, two playoff series prior to the World Series. The rotation during the NL finals could be altered, depending on how many games it takes to win and how many days we might have to wait for the opponent.

I wonder if the D'backs will be looking at season stats home vs. away during any of the post-season.

RJ not pitching at all at Yankee Stadium certainly played a major role in his success in our previous World Series.

Perhaps they should probably at least win the division first before we start planning the rotation for the World Series. I like that the sights are being set highly.
