Jets | Still interested in Boldin
Wed, 22 Apr 2009 08:09:25 -0700

Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets remain interested in trading for Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin.

Is the #17 good enough for Boldin????

Absolutely Nooooo ...... They would still have to add another piece. Either a player (Leon Washington) or a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Maybe a 1st, 4th, and a switch of positions in the third round for Boldin.

First it depends on who is left @ #17 and how highly the Cards think of that player. Second even if we loved a guy @ #17 we would still need further compensation but it wouldnt have to be another pick this year. I would be perfectly willing to except a 3rd and a 6th/7th in 2010 as part of the deal.

I have been following some of these trade rumors and I have to say some of them are ridiculous on boths sides. Most are pure speculation.

However, one trade that I really liked and think it would work well for the Cards is Boldin for Ronnie Brown + 2nd rnd pick.

Again thats all speculation but I would love to see RB in a Cards uni. Guy can run, catch, and block. I do not however, know if the Dolphins have him on the trade block.

the bolded part is never happening

it would be draft picks --

NFL teams just do not trade young players signed to good contracts. Especially 2nd round or later picks that have turned out really well.

Either a player (Leon Washington)

Now we are talking business.

Put Leon Washington into the mix, and I would start talking seriously about the situation.

Trade for Boldin and get Washington, then get a Chris Wells or Rashad Jennings in the draft ?

Now that would be a plan that would make some sense.

Our backfield would have everything they need to suceed in a Whiz/Cowher/Gibbs system. The only question mark would be the Oline.

If 17 means getting Moreno and they add another pick to it like a 3rd or a 4th. YES

I'd do Boldin for Brown straight up.

and then I'd trade our number 3 to KC for Tony Gonzalez.

next I'd make my reservations for Miami next Feb.

I will go out on a limb:

I would suggest that the Jets wouldnt trade Leon Washington straight up for Boldin.

I was saying this yesterday, Q's value goes down on draft day as everyone knows what we are after. If Well or Moreno are around heading towards the 20th pick i can see a few calls being placed to the cards.

Hopfully we have a few offers on the table and have also been able the get a messure on intrest in Q this week.

You also have the bring Edge into it, we get an top 3 RB and he is gone. Not a bad fall back unless he isnt going to play ball next year and give 100%, if thats the case then the trigger gets pulled on a Q trade at under value.

Yes and no.

The "No" part is easiest to explain. If you were to rank all the player on the Cardinal roster in order of their importance to the team, Boldin would probably rank somwhere in the Top 6 (along with Warner, Fitz, Dockett, Dansby and Wilson).

One of the Top 6 players on a Super Bowl team. How much is a guy like that worth? A number freakin 17? Alone? I don't think so.

A #17 plus a 3rd (or even a 2nd) rounder? For one of our 6 best players? Sorry!

That said - If the Cardinal brass is obsessed with drafting either Wells or Moreno, the CW says that at least one will be gone by #16 and the other probably won't get past #25. So if you want one, you'd better trade up to get him. Which means that arguably the only two teams expressing interest in Boldin with 1st round picks high enough to do the Cards any good are Jax at #8 (and they just signed Holt) and the Jets at #17.

Logically (if this is what the Cards want), they'd wait until the Jets were on the clock to determine whether Moreno and/or Wells were still on the board and - if one of the two were still available - whether they could deal Boldin for the pick.

But like I said - even a #17 and a #52 for Boldin. Or #17 plus a swap of the Jets #52 for our #63 plus the Jets #76 for Boldin still wouldn't, in my opinion, be enough.

The Jets may be interested in Q but I doubt if they pay the price considering Rex Ryan is looking to put together a defense-oriented run-first type of team. I'm interested in a new Ferrari, but that ain't gonna happen either.

Not me.

There has to be something else to make the "points" work. A 2nd round pick could make it happen.

EDIT: Miami is willing to deal Ronnie Brown accoring NFL Network

Why do that with his salary when you can probably draft Chase Coffman at that position?

Quantitatively evaluating Boldin trade offers ignores possible psychological ramifications like "are we better served having a happier locker room?" No easy answer.

None of these scenarios sound like enough for me. The Jets first pick + a third next year and a fifth this year might get it done.

You guys are crazy. Please see JoeSchmos post about his injury history, contract, and long yards plays last year.

He is a great back but trading him straight up for Q or even with a 2nd is not a good deal IMO.

When are people going to understand that 26+ year old RBS are depreciating assets?

There is a reason Parcells would be okay with trading him. Q has much more potential value.

Using GREAT and his name in the same sentence does not go hand in hand AT ALL.

Locker rooms are full of guys with contract issues, wife and girlfriend problems, etc, etc...

The golden rule, if you want to maintain your respect in the room, is that they are not discussed on company time.

To think that Q's contract is going to somehow be more disruptive is just silly...IMO.

I don't think it's enough, just a 1st either. Even if Moreno, Wells are still on the board.

I like the idea of having Boldin and Brown anyway, but I don't think the Cards are thinking that way. They could start getting desperate.

It's also possible that they just might wait and listen to good offers in the 2nd round as well. A couple teams have two second rounders and third rounders (inc. comp picks). We just might be more of a player then depending on who's sitting there that we like.

But to get panicky and just get one pick! :thumbdown
