On a side note. It is nice to have a few options to consider on the line. The depth alone should improve their play.

LT - Brown (if this pick works at all)
LG - Gandy
C - Johnson
RG - Lutui
RT - Wells

I still think Ross is in danger of being cut.

The line should be:

LT Levi Brown
LG Milford Brown
C Al Johnson
RG Deuce Lutui
RT Reggie Wells

Anything else would be complete stupidity on the coachs part, IMO.

Would be my choice also. Wells is not a guard and even if you play him there he is not better than Milford Brown.

I think the OL ends up like this:

LT-Gandy
LG-Milford Brown
C-Johnson
RG-Lutui
RT-Levi Brown

that would be our best smash-mouth run blocking line and that's what Whiz has been banging on from day 1. I would love see Faneca acquired but i don't see any way that can happen now unless the Cards give up a 2008 pick for him.

This is the lineup I want to see.

LT Reggie Wells
LG Milford Brown
C Nick Lecky
RG Deuce Lutui
RT Levi Brown

Wells at LT to face the smaller quicker DEs.

This is how I see it as well and for the same reason. Also I didn't think Wells was as productive as a guard.

We need to hope like hell that Levi works out as a LT. Don't give me this "protecting Matt's blindside" bull. The best pass rushers need to be blocked by the best OL.

LT: L. Brown - B. Gorin
LG: M. Brown - M. Gandy
C: A. Johnson - N. Leckey
RG: D. Lutui - ??? E. Brown/day2 draft pick/FA pickup?
RT: O. Ross - R. Wells

Good Thread, Jay.

While I clearly believe that Reggie Wells is best suited for tackle because he lacks strength to handle big DTs, and further that LT is his best position due to his quick feet to handle quick pass rushers, I think the staff is looking at him at guard because guards will do a lot of pulling in the new running schemes. That's why the experiment with him at guard during the spring. That said, here is my prediction:

Starters:
LT Wells
LG Gandy (new regime vs old regime)
C Johnson (ditto, though I see Leckey giving a strong challenge)
RG Lutui
RT L Brown

Reserves:
LT/RT: Ross
LG/RG: M Brown
C: Leckey (I don't really buy the low set-up argument, but thats JMHO)

9th? Not sure we carry 9.

A thought: Bryant Johnson for Fanaca? Perhaps we need to add a future fifth or sixth. Both players are in the last year of their deals.

The Cardinals have infused more talent into their line. The combinations are endless:

Levi Brown (LOT-ROT)
Reggie Wells (ROT-LOT-G)
Deuce Lutui (ROG-ROT)
Al Johnson (C)
Milford Brown (LOG-ROG)
Mike Gandy (ROT-LOT-G)
Nick Lecky (C-G)
Brandon Gorin (LOT-ROT)
Oliver Ross (LOT-ROT)
Elton Brown (G)
Qasim Mitchell (ROT)

The Cardinals will keep 10 offensive lineman this year on the roster. They will keep only 2 QB's (Leinart and Warner). Barring injury only one of the above players will be waived. Early favorites to be let go are: Elton Brown, Brandon Gorin or Oliver Ross.

Time to play the Hypothetical " You Be The Coach" game.

It's the weekend of the opener against San Francisco. Who's your starting Offensive Line? Your depth chart?

I'm interested in seeing some of the responses and how it actually winds up unfollding.

Here's my Oline.. For what it's worth.

LT-- Levi Brown
RT -- Reggie Wells
C -- Nick Leckey
RG -- Deuce Lutui
LG -- Milford Brown

Bench

Al Johnson
Mike Gandy
Brandon Gorin
Free Agent pickup (someone of the veteran, lower priced variety)

Cut

Oliver Ross
Elton Brown
You have it perfectly like I do, but I think Johnson will really challenge for the starting center job, we'll see.

The coaches who spend hundreds of hours with the players analyzing their moves would be stupid not to follow what you've come up with from your arm chair?

This comment could apply to about 95% of the posts.:D

Thank you. :)

That's a very good evaluation. I'll go as far as say this is one of most logic filled reasons as to why the new regime is looking at him as a guard.

Starters:
LT Wells
LG Gandy (new regime vs old regime)
C Johnson (ditto, though I see Leckey giving a strong challenge)
RG Lutui
RT L Brown

Reserves:
LT/RT: Ross
LG/RG: M Brown
C: Leckey (I don't really buy the low set-up argument, but thats JMHO)

Hmm. I like Gandy better as a guard than I do a tackle, however bumping Milford Brown to the bench is a move I'd question. Then again, perhaps he was more suited for what Denny Green was looking for offensively in contrast to what Whisenhunt and Grimm are seeking to impliment, which may be a system Brown's not suited to start in. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

A thought: Bryant Johnson for Fanaca? Perhaps we need to add a future fifth or sixth. Both players are in the last year of their deals.

Very interesting trade scenario. I'm thinking along the lines of Bryant Johnson for Tra Thomas. But we both think the same way in this sense.

Whiz kept 9 offensive linemen last year in Pitt.

1. Levi Brown - T
2. Duece Lutui - G
3. Al Johnson - C
4. Mike Gandy - G/T
5. Oliver Ross - T
6. Milford Brown - G/T
7. N.Leckey - C/G
8. Reggie Wells - G/T
9. Brandon Gorin - T/Quasim Mitchell - T

Cut -
Elton Brown, G
Brandon Gorin - T /Quasim Mitchell - T

That is a very good core offensive linemen. Much better than anything we have had in Arizona in the last decade.
