I've always thought he was good, but I think people are getting a little too excited about a preseason game against the Beijing Ducks.

That high post maneuver and shot was typical of Doncic in the games I watched Some of the passes he threw from there were things of beauty.

Yeah. I think he's fantastic and will be a really good NBA player. I was an Ayton guy, but a large part of me regrets that I won't be able to watch Luka on my favorite team for the next decade.

I do think his awesomeness will translate to the NBA, but that has always been the question. And I think it's funny that so many people on Twitter are using clips from this game to show that his his ability transfers to the NBA...when he's playing a team from the Chinese Basketball Association.

I've seen several people show his coast to coast drive to show that he is indeed athletic, as if he didn't look athletic in Europe. But he's blowing by defenders from the Beijing Ducks.

I can't really fault Mavs or Doncic fans for getting excited about his play. I know I'd be revved even if Ayton was just doing it against the Beijing Ducks. Sure, it doesn't mean everything but it does mean something. I'm glad we have Ayton but I expect Doncic to become an NBA star.

To be fair, I was geeking out over Ayton all day and he was playing against his own team.

That's going into a weird area that I think the NBA may not want to get involved with. I can't see the players association sitting back and allowing them to fine him. There would need to be some sort of language in the CBA now that allows them to call for a player to cover a tattoo. Obscenities are understandably something they could call for a player to cover but a logo? That seems odd. I thought a few players had the Jordan logo over the years and that wasn't an issue, that I can remember. What logos can they call for players to cover? If an NBA player had something like a Marvel logo, they wouldn't call for that to be covered. Dwight and Shaq had superman logo tattoos and the NBA leaned into the marketing there. So only a clothing company is an issue?

JR Smith being the guy behind this makes it a bit more of an issue since he's not the guy the players association would want to back, ideally, since he's loud, known to say stupid things, and start trouble. Of course he is someone they do need to back up though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he wear a Supreme sleeve before being forced to remove it? And didn't he then go and get an advertising tattoo for Supreme? Anyway, this isn't the first time the NBA has gone after players that have violated things like this that have been negotiated at the league level. This infringes on their endorsement agreements and was a stupid and selfish move IMO.

Their inconsistent with enforcing it though. Marcin Gortat has a Jordans logo on his calf (he's had it even he played in Phoenix iirc) and yet that's somehow not seen as an issue.

I really don't follow it very closely so I can't say whether they've been inconsistent in the past but the Gortat situation isn't the same as Smith's. I don't know when he got it but the Jumpman logo is Nike so it doesn't conflict with or jeopardize the billion dollar deal the NBA has with that company.

But regardless, Smith knew exactly what he was doing and he knew it was not allowed. Although it's unlikely, his actions could put that Nike deal in jeopardy and is incredibly selfish on his part. And it could have huge ramifications down the road if other sponsors no longer trust in the NBA's ability or willingness to protect their intellectual property rights (or whatever it's called).

I dont see what ppl get excited about, even against the Beijing Ducks Doncic looked like Joe Ingles with slightly better passing.

I take back what I said about him pre-draft that he is going to be a SF and nothing else. In fact he will probably be a PF because he is slow-footed and look heavy.

Love you Slin . Unique, and predictable. But I welcome a Doncic hater here right now.

No buyers remorse here. Not for me. We got a great big TBone. Not going to drool over the little tiny filet the guy at the next table ordered.

I'm liking the Turkoglu comp for Doncic more all the time. If you watch some Turkoglu highlights from earlier in his career, they are remarkably similar.

I said the same thing a while back, when the whole "Ayton vs. Doncic" draft debate was going on. Doncic looks like a large-framed kid to me. When he fills out completely, he is probably going to be too big to effectively play wing, let alone any guard position.

Now he may ultimately be a pretty good passer and decent outside shooter for a chunky swing forward. But he won't be flying past anyone driving to the hoop, which will make his game much less impressive on the NBA level than it has been as the Euro "wunderkind."

Oh, and I highly doubt the Mavs are also going to be beating anyone in the NBA by 70 points any time this season. Expectations are probably way out of whack with their fans right about now.

This is something a lot of Doncic defenders seemed to take exception to before the draft but I think it's more likely than anything else going forward. I know Turkoglu was awful on the Suns a few years back but he did look good the year or two before coming here in Orlando. Stan Van Gundy used him right and got more out of him than anyone else. That's why Orlando was willing to take him back with his bloated contract.

Doncic vs Ayton seems to be a much easier call now, after summer league and seeing Doncic in an NBA setting like that Chinese game. I know he played against CBA talent but that's on par with Summer League, IMO, and since he had NBA players on his side he should have stood out more if he was really the can't miss prospect some hyped him as. He looked ok, at best, and like someone you wouldn't be happy that your team selected ahead of the other talent in this draft like Ayton, Jaren Jackson, and Bagley. Young struggled in Summer League but he's on the Hawks so I don't fault him entirely. That had to have been the most depressing place he could have ended up.

It could be Doncic makes one heck of a power forward with his passing skills and shooting skills. Of course I'm sure the Mavericks will move him around.

It would be a curious situation if he ended up being the Mavericks replacement for Dirk... as we all wondered where he would play.

Is that the one who didn't get drafted this year or the younger one? The one who didn't get drafted also got the shoplifting charges in China. Seems like he's much more trouble than he could ever be worth. I know the middle child, whatever his name was, was the one who everyone said would never make the NBA. Lonzo had talent and the youngest has shown flashes but was so young when Lonzo was at UCLA that you couldn't write him off yet, completely.

He is the youngest ball.
Liangelo is the middle child, and the one you are referring to.

Ok, so LiMelo is the one who just got in a fight, supposedly.

LiAngelo was the draft bust this year and alleged shoplifter right?
