Some players are getting traded or waived today. Nothing much of interest so far.
Here is an example.

Saw that MCW deal, for a conditional 2nd round pick that will likely never change hands the Suns should have taken a look at him. Couldn't hurt. He is a real PG at least.
His stats aren't great but I agree, why not. The Suns should be more active seeking a point guard.
I didn't look at his stats but I figured they wouldn't look good since he can't shoot and played in Houston. I'd be surprised if he appeared in more than a dozen games playing more than garbage time minutes. He's been effective running a slow and plodding offense in the halfcourt before but that was a few years back. He has to be one of the worst Rookie of the Years ever, especially when you consider that injuries didn't play a role in him losing out on roles with teams after his rookie season. His rookie season wasn't that terrible but most years since then have been.
I looked up his stats for this year and he's played in 16 games, which is a few more than I guessed but averaging 9.1 minutes a game in those games so it appears garbage time is probably correct. Even with Houston being without Chris Paul a lot this year though D'Antoni couldn't find a way to get him on the court and that speaks to how poor of a shooter he is. His career stats are misleading also since he's been up and down but never really in the middle, which is where his averages fall. I guess he had 1 year in Milwaukee that was close to his career stats but they traded him for Tony Snell just before the 2016-17 season started. Since then he hasn't really managed to stick anywhere.
According to RealGM, the Bulls may waive MCW.

That's an odd move, trade for him but waive him? Chicago seems to be good for one or two really questionable moves a year though. I know they were warned about tanking last year, perhaps they wanted MCW to be their tank commander since he did such a great job as that for Hinkie but Adam Silver called them and warned them not to try it, they already have a half dozen PG's on their roster and if they start MCW then it's clear what their intentions are.
Who knows? If he is waived though I hope the Suns bring him in. I don't care if it's just a 10 day contract, I think he could be a solid facilitator for someone and since we need one of those badly, throw him in the deep end and see if he can swim.
I'm still trying to figure out Cleveland signing McCaw and then releasing him.

The Cavaliers released McCaw to sign Cameron Payne to a ten day contract.
They did both things but I think there's more to it. And I'd wager they'll release Payne before long. There's a whole backstory involving MaCaw, his dad, his contract demand, him turning down the GS offer and this release. I just don't know where the truth lies.
The Cavaliers were last in the standings at the time they claimed Payne off waivers.
In the NFL the worst team gets first chance to sign a team off waivers. I'm wondering if the NBA works the same way.
Claiming a guy off waivers means that you pay his salary. The worst record gives you first chance at that. For the most part nobody signs guys off waivers unless they have a very low cost. If nobody claims a player off waivers after 72 hours then he is a free agent and can sign with any team - exept the team that waived him. Years ago teams could sign the guy they waived but that canard was overdone and the league stopped it. If a player clears waiver, meaning no one claimed him, the team that waived him pays his contract less the amount a new team pays him. I do believe that the player and the team that waived him can negotiate a settlement, which is called buying him out.
Should have used the words cleared waivers instead.
My thought is the Cavaliers had first rights to sign Payne after he cleared waivers because they were last.
No, they'd only have first claim on the waiver wire because it's like the NFL where the last place team in the standings gets priority. Once he cleared waivers then he's a free agent and go wherever he chooses.

The rockets keep winning with DAntoni only playing 6 players that include Austin Rivers, PJ Tucker, Gerald Green and Danuel House. James Harden is awesome I guess.
Doesn't hurt that guys like Tucker and Green combined for 13 threes in their last game. Green and Tucker are consistently hitting threes and Capela is putting up better numbers than Ayton with much better rim protection. Also helps that their "scrubs" are players in their primes and aren't 1st or 2nd year players that make a bunch of mental errors and have major holes in their game (like lack of strength for instance).Well yeah, Booker is like a 80% Harden.
But those 20% that Harden gives you extra are the reasons the Rockets are winning. If Harden isn't playing super-human they play like they did in the first 20 or so games where they were 2nd last in the West.

So it is a combination of just how good Harden is, but also the production that they are getting from the rest of their roster and some of that includes the play of their "scrubs".
