In 24 hours, the Bears now have agreed to trade a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Rams for Jonah Jackson and a 2026 fourth-round pick to the Chiefs for Joe Thuney.Bears are sparing no expense to protect Caleb Williams
Jackson isnt that good and Thuney is 32.Bears being aggressive on their offensive line. Jackson for a 6th and now are in talks about Joe Thuney from the Chiefs. Makes watching Monti so frustrating.
Sounds like Bears signing Thuney for a 4th rounder per Sheft.
Bears did in two days what Monti hasn't been able to do in two off-seasons.

Kirk would seen like a no-brainer for us if the money is right given Kyler's relationship with him.Lots of WRs on the market all of a sudden with both Kirk and Lockett released today, plus Adams yesterday
Yep. I predicted all of those guys would be cut. Kirk, assuming he is healthy, makes the most sense. Kyler's deep ball really hasn't been the same since Kirk left.Lots of WRs on the market all of a sudden with both Kirk and Lockett released today, plus Adams yesterday
Really.Really?
Thuney is 33 years old this season and plays LG. Yes he filled in at LT, but he literally sucked there. The Chiefs had no other options at LT since their 2nd round pick Suamataia looks like a bust at Tackle so far. So kudos to Thuney for being a team player but he was way out of his league at LT. No way I'm overpaying for a LG who is in the twilight of his career and is most likely the oldest LG in the league.
Jackson looked terrible last season. Yes he was injured for most of the season but he couldn't even beat out a mid round rookie at center when he came back. Absolute terrible signing by the Rams. Surprised they were able to get anything for Jackson as they probably were just going to cut him. But Jackson played for Ben Johnson so there is a tie there I guess and the Bears were desperate.
Yup. Not trading for him.Crosby just got paid by the Raiders.
Monti is the human snail 2.0.Really.
Jackson was good enough to get a large contract the last time he was healthy which was in Detroit. The place where he worked with the current Bears HC.
Thuney is still an all pro IOL. The Bears have money. Thuney would have been the #1 OG in FA.
None are under a long term contract. Both help fill one of the major issues on the Bears roster, the IOL, and they help their 2nd year QB.
Were these perfect moves? No.
Were these moves that make their roster better, fill huge needs without draft capital, and help their young QB...absolutely yes.
Were these moves that help the team win now vs hoping a 4th and 6th rounder can get on the field in the next 2 to 4 seasons...absolutely yes.
Some people on here forget that you need recent success to have the luxury of building to long term success.
He definitely has some Rod Graves in him. The lack of urgency from Monti is what drives me crazy. Completely banking on a poverty franchise fanbase to justify his inactivity and slow burning plan. Backing himself in a corner where he almost has to spend a significant amount of money in bad FA market to get over the cap min formula.Monti is the human snail 2.0.
Being aggressive for the sake of being aggressive is not good decision making, man.Really.

The Bears literally had nothing at the 3 IOL positions so they had to do something. These seem like risky short term moves that cost draft capital when they could have got similar or better help at guard via FA.Really.

I agree but I don't think this is that. A 4th and a 6th for two NFL caliber OGs, one of which was a Pro Bowl starter in 2024, is a low risk, high reward move. After those two moves the Bears still have 51 mil in cap space per OTC and it is a mid at best FA class.Being aggressive for the sake of being aggressive is not good decision making, man.
Thuney was a First Team All-Pro the last two years, and the Bears gave up a 2026 4th round pick for him. I don't see how that is a bad deal, especially with the amount of cap space they have. Meanwhile, Monti gets praised for spending money on guys like Zavon and Froholdt, who are obviously younger but also pretty far below the caliber of player Thuney is currently.Really.

Again, disagree. Chiefs made a move to get under the cap and keep their younger OG. Bears got a 2024 Pro Bowl starting OG. Thuney will make significantly more of an impact than a future 4th round pick on a team that has to support it's young QB.The Bears literally had nothing at the 3 IOL positions so they had to do something. These seem like risky short term moves that cost draft capital when they could have got similar or better help at guard via FA.
The Chiefs again are doing things right. They franchised their young stud at OG and moved off of an expensive aging vet. Not only did the move off of an expensive aging vet they were able to use Ben Johnson's familiarity with Thuney to squeeze out more than they probably could have got from any other team in a trade. The Chiefs are playing Chess and the Bears are playing Checkers.
