Personally, I think the two need to have a bare knuckles fight to the death and loser gets the title as worst. Towers did have early success in SD, while Byrnes rode the coattails of Theo and really has done nothing but get fired while in the middle of long contracts. Neither should ever be a GM again. AJ Hinch, really? Organizational Advocacy? Grit? Cody Ross?

So true. Towers has been so bad. Traded away all our pitching for basically nothing. Hard to watch the games this year.

Actually, the moves listed in that article that Byrnes made really aren't too bad....particularly compared to the moves Towers has made... Which adds some credence to the rumors of the Padres being interested in bringing KT back to SD...

Both KT and Gibby won't get fired this season. La Russa will evaluate them both and make changes if need be.

We've gotten worse for 4 seasons successively and are on pace for the 2nd worst record in franchise history. KT is gone, without question, its just a matter of time. I think probably over the all-star break.

Prediction: Neither Gibby nor Towers make it out of June alive. MARK IT!! Your interim manager will be Dave McKay, and we might even see Dave Duncan replace Harkey as pitching coach.

You are on the right track, but Dave McKay has no managerial experience. He is not the man to finish a season which has already starting rebuilding.

Here is my recommendation for a strong staff built from within for the rest of the season.

KEVIN TOWERS -- He is no longer a decision maker. At best, he is a go-fer. Get rid of him immediately.

BILLY RYAN ------ Promote from Assistant GM to interim GM, with the option of interviewing during the off-season if he sees fit. (But understanding that the D-backs will want an experienced and successful GM.) Joe Torre makes the decisions -- Billy Ryan will do the legwork.

KIRK GIBSON ---- Get rid of him immediately. He is a free spirit and a free spirit can be anything from an innovator to a flake. The day he benched a young outfielder after getting 4 hits including the game-winning walk-off, then telling the Press that he wanted to "Shake things up" is when he defined himself as a flake.

ALAN TRAMMELL - Although he is a good guy, Kirk Gibson's best friend would have a serious conflict of interest staying on the job under an interim manager. Or even following him.

BOB BRENLY ----- Our former (Championship) manager, who, as TV analyst, is totally aware of every player on the team (as well as coaches) should accept the job of interim Manager, with the option of interviewing during the off-season if he sees fit. Although he started this silly concept of 130 different batting orders in a season, he is overall a major improvement over Gibson, especially as the team leader.

GLEN SHERLOCK - Having run the bullpen (and being coach since the inception, including under Brenly), make him interim Bench Coach (unless he is totally lacking in administrative skills).

DAVE McKAY ----- From 1B coach to 3B coach.

HENRY BLANCO--- From special assistant to 1B coach.

GONZO------------ From special assistant to interim TV analyst, as he has done before. If he would rather not, move TOM CANDIOTTI from radio to TV analyst. And have JEFF MUNN team up with the Guv'nor on radio, as he has done before.

Using in-house people to un-do the chaos of TOWERS and GIBSON would be a solid move to developing our young players, winning over the local Press and public and returning pride to the organization. With the worst record in the National League and 2nd worst in the Major Leagues, we need to restore pride. Especially with so many young players coming on board.

And, while I am at it, Didi is batting .196. When Chris Owings returns, he should be restored immediately to full-time SS and Didi moved elsewhere.

And the manager who decided to give Didi equal playing time should be gotten rid of immediately. Oh, I already covered that! :)

I have one HUGE concern going forward. We all know the D-Backs are going to be sellers at the deadline. Guys like Cody Ross, Aaron Hill, McCarthy are going to be talked about.

I don't think any of us wants Towers making those deals, so he has got to go before the deadline nears.

This article makes it sound like Towers is still relevant.

FIRE TOWERS!

If the Dbacks are gonna sell they need a good GM in charge that will get the most for the few expendable assets we have left.

Uhhhhhg... there goes Towers again in that linked article telling everyone exactly what he wants, naming both pitching and outfield depth as "target areas"... a couple areas Towers was calling as recently as 6 months ago a part of the team that was so deep he let everyone know he was ready to ship guys out... and eventually did for pennies on the dollar. Fix the infield by blowing up the outfield... oops, fix the outfield, trade away infielders... uh oh... lets dip into the starters and patch this up... rinse, repeat.

The frequent references in the press to what he wants to trade and what he wants to trade away to do so is astonishing. I've never seen another sports exec do it. Constantly backing himself into bad bad trade negotiations. I am honestly convinced the man is a flat out idiot.

I like him blaming injuries for the current disaster. We're no more or less injured than a large portion of the league, the problem we face is that outside of Goldschmit the roster (healthy or not) is devoid of high level talent, and secondly and much more damaging... Towers has for years viewed any measure of depth as excess and left the organization with nothing to fall back on when his high price mediocre turds get injured or suck.
