I was just watching Cards Live, and they replayed the Haggans sack where he planted Losman on the inch line early in the fourth. Even being GENEROUS and giving Losman the spot of where he first got hit, not where he hit the ground, it was no more than the 1 and 1/2 yard line. They spotted it at the 3. How in the hell was that spotted there? I was sooooo angry in the stadium on that play.

Forward progress on that play would give 1.5 yard line at most.

Ridiculous.

I reviewed that play 2 or 3 time on my TIVO during the game and was yelling that that was the worse spot I've seen since the skins game. He was clearly tackled at the 1 yard line even giving the benefit of doubt it might have been the one and a half yard line. LOL

Makes me recognize that winning makes stuff like that of less consequence. I have no doubt of your observations but I wasn't tuned into the officials for much of the Buffalo game. Only 4 penalties on the Cards, no roughing call on AW, etc. all made for a pretty relaxed perception of the officiating for me.

Pasch commented on that right away on radio said it was a generous spot.

That's one thing I like about Pasch he tells you what he thinks. he worked the Cal/Maryland game where there was an even worse call/spot. Cal tackled the RB in the endzone for a safety, 2 yards deep not even close. The ref not only ruled no safety, he spotted the ball on the 2 yard line. Pasch was laughing about the spot and when they showed the replay he and his partner were just incredulous how a group of refs could all watch a blatantly obvious safety, and not one of them called it.

I was flipping out about this as well. At first I thought there was a chance we had gotten a safety. Then I saw the replay prior to the spot and said "alright, atleast we've got them down on their one". That spot was beyond horrible.

NFL Refs are not as bad as NBA refs. Yet. Anyone see the missed facemask call by Hochuli's crew on Monday night? Followed by a missed incompletion.

Or how about the BS roughing the passer call against Terrell Suggs that cost Baltimore the game against the Titans?

I was going to ask you about that one. Jeff Fisher gets the call once again.

I was almost hoping that the Cards challenged the spot. That spot was so bad they should have. I wonder if they didn't only because they were so far ahead that they didn't bother.

It was a complete head scratcher for sure. Was hoping Whis would throw the challenge down. At least we had a nice lead so I didn't have to break out the blood pressure meds.

yeah that was terrible you could see Bush' head turn right away so when the ball came out I instantly thought NO will keep the ball becuase of the facemask.

Hochuli has always had a rep as a good ref but this year they can't seem to get one right, kind of goes along with the whole weird season we're seeing.

He could do a good job this year but all of his calls will be magnified more so then the other refs who miss calls as well because of one bad call that got the attention of everyone. He could be a better ref then others through the rest of the year but because his calls are magnified people wont see it that way. Sucks for him.

Agreed one horrible call that changes the outcome of a game is something people don't quickly forget.

he's gone from the cool ref that wears tight uniforms to show off his guns to the guy who blew that call and cost SD a win.

But I still don't know how they missed that facemask on Bush all you have to do is see a head swivel like that and you know it's a facemask.

Again though, his calls wouldn't be so magnified if he would just wear shirts that fit.

The guy obviously wanted to be seen and known when he ordered those shmedium ref unis. Be carefull what you wish for...

Oh, I completely disagree. Darnell Dockett got called for a facemask against the Jets. The Jets RB's head snapped around and it looked like an obvious facemask. The first thing out of my mouth when watching it was "Dammit Darnell". They played it in slow motion and Dockett never had his hand on the mask. If you don't see the hand on the mask you shouldn't call the penalty. Hochuli wasn't the only official on the field.

You can't challenge the spot unless there is a chance of 1st down/no first down or safety/no safety.

Well sure there are obviously times where it looks like one and isn't but in general they tend to err on the side of caution, call it when it looks like one.

On that play the way Bush' body and head acted it was quite surprising that none of the refs saw it. and that is why I specifically wrote they can't seem to get one right, meant his crew not just him.

There are absolutely plays where it looks like a facemask and isn't but in general if the head does a little Linda Blair action, they call a facemask.

I know that they talked about this earlier in the year, but I don't think that is the concrete rule. I think (again, think) that if you spot the ball and you win the challenge, you lose a timeout if it doesn't result in a first down.

That is challenging a first down when you have the ball. You cannot challenge the spot itself. In this case they had the ball, we could not challenge it.

It's not part of the Sunday ticket. You have to pay the extra 10$ for the sprots package to get all of the fox sports networks. Then they hone you on all the live games as they are blacked out. But this year we are getting Maxium Cardinals every Sunday morning. They used to black that out too, for what reason I will never figure out.
