Plot Summary: 40-year-old Andy Stitzer (Steve Carrell) has done quite a few things in his life. He's got a cushy job stamping invoices at an electronics superstore, a nice apartment with a proud collection of action figures and comic books, good friends, a nice attitude. But there's just one little thing he hasn't quite gotten around to doing yet--something most people have done by his age. Done a lot. Andy's never, ever, ever had sex--not even by accident. So is that such a big deal?

Well, for Andy's buds at the store, it sure is. Although they think he's a bit of an oddball, there's certainly a planetful of stranger (and homelier) guys who've at least had one go at having a go. They consider it their duty to help Andy out of his dire situation and go to great lengths to help him. But nothing proves effective enough to lure their friend out of lifelong chastity until he meets Trish (Catherine Keener), a 40-year-old mother of three. Andy's friends are psyched by the possibility that "it" may finally happen...until they hear that Andy and Trish have begun their relationship based on a mutual no-sex policy.

I saw the poster for this at Arizona Mills. This should be funny. I loved his stuff in Anchorman. Mayonnaise, toaster, etc.

Waxing Hysterical

If you think you've seen it all when it comes to movie marketing, well, Universal Studios Home Entertainment is kicking it up a notch for the DVD release of The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Next week, they'll be traveling around the country holding nationwide chest waxings for those of you "special folks" who have a bit of a jungle growing below your neck.

Why chest waxings? Well, because these people are morons. No, actually, it's a nod to one of the more popular scenes from the movie in which Steve "The Virgin" Carell must have the hair on his chest ripped off in the hopes it will land him another 20 starring roles. Sponsored by Aveda and Burke Williams spas, the best part of this whole thing is that the winner (we're guessing the person who comes the closest to resembling Big Foot) will receive a "mysterious grand prize." What's up with that? Hell, if I'm going under the wax in front of a crowd of my fellow citizens, you best be telling me what I'm getting in return. And don't say an Aveda freaking gift basket!

In case you're interested (it's okay, we won't say anything), the traveling chest waxing tour will tear through New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philidelphia, Dallas, Phoenix, Houston, San Francisco, Atlanta, Sacramento, Cleveland, Indianapolis, St Louis and Los Angeles. The unrated DVD version of The 40-Year-Old Virgin will hit stores on December 13th. Happy waxing!

I must concur. Actually, the work scenes were more funny to me than the sex scenes. I thought it had a real "Office" feal to it.

I wish they had followed up on the black store clerk and the black customer fight scene, with an appropriate parking lot scene or something!

Yuma, that part was hilarious. They easily could have taken that further, and it would have been awesome. I loved when the customer told Andy that he was in for it too, and Andy said "what'd I do?"

Just saw this last night, very funny movie. I've liked pretty much everything that Judd Apatow has done and I've seen. I'm going to pick up the Freaks and Geeks series on dvd probably soon and give it a shot. The guy that played the pot head stockroom guy has been in every Judd Apatow program I've seen too.

do it, and right away. i watched the entire series in one day. woke up, watched all 18 episodes, went to bed. a very productive day. also, i just finished watching undeclared, which wasn't as good as freaks and geeks, but still really funny. i now have a crush on seth rogen.

I couldn't find any threads about this movie. I have to say, I didn't expect much, which is why I didn't see it until now, but it was a very pleasant surprise. It was very funny, intelligent, well written and well acted.

I liked how the story followed the main character, Andy, and his relationship with one woman that he really cared for. I was expecting a cliched plot where Andy goes from woman-to-woman trying to lose his virginity, but the usual tired plot contrivances keep getting in the way, i.e. husband walks in, woman is into S & M and scares him off etc., but that wasn't the case.

If you haven't seen it, you should check it out.
