Though I am glad he is making progress, I would be more impressed if he was destroying those guys. I mean 20 points in that league is like 10 points playing at the regular level.

I really really hope that he gets his hops back. One of the reason why he was able to dominate last year is because he was fearless when dunking on people. Let's hope he can still do that.

One thing that is of MAJOR concern though. Amare including last nights game committed another 10 fouls. Usually when someone fouls as much as Amare has, its a sign that you can't move from left to right or stay with your man.

IMO, this shows that Amare is still having trouble staying with other players. So it's great his offense is improving. However, his rebounding and defense are a concern at this point and may be a better indication of where he really is.

Yeah, if he could destroy guys in the summer league, then for the National team, then in suns training camp, and then for 82 regular season games, and then for 25 playoff games .... while recovering from a serious knee injury ..... He and the coaching/training staff would be SO DUMB to even try that!!!

So your saying Amare couldn't destory someone in limited minutes?? He should be. According to Amare he is fully recovered physically and it's mostly mental. If that's the case then his only physical limitation is getting back in basketball shape.

The only point that I am making is, if someone isn't moving very well (meaning that physically maybe there still is some issues) that would account for his fouls. He has a ton of fouls in the last 3 games. That is usually a sign of something not being right.

Amare is certainly not in basketball shape after such a layoff. The fouls could indicate that he is out of shape, or simply that he knows its a summer league game and is not trying to limit his fouls. My statement was that it would be stupid for Amare to play full tilt, except in short bursts. Basketball can be a game of mano-on-mano, that is a personal competition in the summer leagues especially. I'm sure when amare attacks his man, his man has at him at the other end on the next possession. It would be stupid of amare to get drawn into this type of game within the game. He has nothing to prove to these guys. It will take some time for him to get his strength back and be in NBA basketball shape. Really nothing will be known about the extent of his recovery for about 2 months, when he has had the time to get in shape and test his physical ability. And yes, I agree that the mental part is huge.

From the box scores, my guess is that Amare is futzing around playing 'point center', and his main goal right now is to see how many passes he can bounce off his teammates' chests and foreheads. Other than that, he's playing hard when he feels like it and going for rebounds when he wants to.

I haven't seen any of the games though, so I wouldn't dignify the preceding remark by calling it an 'opinion'.

I caught 2 games in Vegas this weekend; these were my impressions:

I agree that Amare has improved his passing and ball handling – he was even dribbling with his left hand! He made some soft dunks – nothing explosive. I kept thinking ‘darn, he should be dominating these guys’ but my guess is the coaches have told him to concentrate on his conditioning and passing out of double teams and not worry too much about his stats.

The second game we caught was Monday vs. the Pistons and after the 1st few minutes I commented to hubby that Amare looked tired and winded. He committed 10 fouls!! Someone pointed out that was because he couldn’t keep up with his man and I agree – his lateral movement didn’t seem too good.

I really wanted to root for the Italian point guard but after watching him for 2 games didn’t come away impressed. He’s not much of a shooter but did make some good passes. I thought it was funny that at one point he yelled to Amare ‘here, bambino’ as he passed the ball to him, LoL. He seemed to be getting into Amare’s ear about some things which Amare didn’t seem pleased about.

If that's the case, and the coaches didn't back the gaurd, then he WILL NEVER see a Suns uni.

LOL! And that's exactly what I saw with my own eyes. No one's expecting Amare to pass and then it's "ball to the head." Reminded me in 96 when Nash banked shotgun-style one-handed passes off Chucky Brown's nose two times in three trips down the court.

I really hope fatigue or efford only in stretches is really what it's all about. Hopefully the fouls are not an indication of his inability to stay with other guys. I really can't wait to see this guy in action again.

Denial. Denial. Denial. It worked for Clinton but won't for Amare.

Muggum's post was right on target. Amare is waaay behind where he should be by now.

And where SHOULD he be, Skkorp? Not quite halfway through the 2-year recovery period? Ahh, I see.

BlazerBlog works today's game. Amare isn't playing.

Without Lampe on the floor, Phoenix doesn't have anyone that can handle LaMarcus in the post.
Outlaw big block on Lampe at the rim...Ooohh, says the crowd.
Lampe steps through the lane and scores over Aldridge, but Outlaw responds with a deep two and Portland is within 11.
Another 3' for Phoenix...again, rotations on defense continue to be very, very poor.
Looks like the comeback bid, led mainly by Outlaw and Roy, is going to come up short. But great effort after the team fell down by as many as 18 in the first half.

watching the suns vs. pistons on nbatv...amare looked pretty good in the 3rd qtr..he drove it pretty hard and quick quite a few times from top of the key. had some nice explosiveness on a dunk (after the whistle though)
he didnt really try on D and rebounding it looked like. im pretty happy from what i saw.
