Frankly, I wish they'd simplify the whole compensation structure. I'm no HR dude or cap expert but there's got to be a saner, less opaque way of paying players.

He the starter until about week 6 or 7 after a bunch of bad games and then the rookie will take over.

Meh... Stanton is what he is. He signed a back up caliber contract. Coach speak if you ask me. Nothing more or less. Hes going to sing the company tune no matter what.

Generally speaking QBs are much like they were in there college career once they get to the NFL. Of course there are exceptions like Leinart but if one had looked at all the superstars surrounding him they might have concluded he is not as good as it appears. How often do you see a so so QB in college arrive in the NFL and become a star. More often than not they do not even make it to the NFL. I hope Stanton is what we all hope for but think we have as good or a better chance of striking gold in the draft if we draft a QB in the first two rounds.

Stanton had a good second year in college, but was derailed by an injury the next year.

Whether it is Stanton or a rookie draft choice, we will have to give the person a year to see what they can do. Might as well be Stanton is coach is right about his mechanics and arm strength. That is basically what you hope to get in a rookie. This way we haven't wasted a big draft choice on someone who at best is a calculated gamble.

Saying that, I do like Geno a lot and would love to have a shot with him. But that is not based on logic, but rather just my hope and dreams. We have a chance this year to really improve some vital needs on our team if we don't take a QB with a high pick. That is what I have always leaned towards really.

If Stanton is a flop, we will have a high draft choice again next year to gamble on a rookie. With Stanton, we just maybe be able to have our cake and eat it too.
