as you warned me not to engage the Gee I will return the favor in kind: Don't try to understand George because it's apparent he hasn't tried to understand you.

They're saying he'll be a top 3 pick. Atlanta will be bad, but I seriously doubt they'll be top 3 bad.

Well the #1 bad this draft picked #4...

Portland was 7th worse and picked #1

And atl wasnt top 3 bad this year but picked top 3

viva la lottery

What's to understand? Rose is getting top three ranking in both DX and nbadraft.net. He's not the only impact guy that will be in the top five and if there is a chance to get there, then there is no way you'd trade away that pick.

But if they are late lottery with negligible chance of top five AND the pick can be used to get the missing piece of this year's championship == then I think you have to go for the championship.

I could have sworn it was you that said getting the championship this year is the absolutely most important thing the Suns could possibly do. Or did I misunderstand?

The part about oden durant and horford threw me off, as I was discussing derrick rose for next years draft and you were discussing players you want from this years draft.

Then you talked about the possibility of the pick landing late lottery, which is both obvious and irrelevent to my hopeful promise of landing derrick rose.

Then you talked about if it was late lottery and trading the pick for an already established player to grasp the championship, which is irrelevent to my desire for derrick rose.

In fact, my whole statement was about how I think rose is an awesome player and we should grab him, and you never once talked about him.

I'm excited! The higher the pick, the more we'll get for it in cash!

Also don't forget that the three teams that won the lottery were the 4th, 5th and 6th worst teams. If Atlanta ends up anywhere from 4-8 we have a realistic shot at one of the top 3 picks.

This is the point I think everyone misses. If ATL is really the 5 - 8 worst team as many of us feel they will be (for gods sakes they have rookie shoot first PG and 10 SF's on the team!) than there is a good chance our luck could reverse and we could get into that top 3.

Really that ATL team is a Joe Johnson injury away from being a VERY bad team. We have had some bad luck so I'd like to think we are due for some good fortune.

I meant player.

i didnt make myself too clear.

i meant that we could trade Atlanta's pick back to Atlanta if they are doing so aweful. Josh Smith or Marvin would be ideal canditates, and Atlanta could then just tank it to try to ensure themselves the best possible pick in the draft.

Having the ATL pick and an 8 million TE could open some possibilities at the trade deadline.

I think the Suns are planning on trading the pick. If they were going to keep the pick they would have been better off trading their '09 pick instead of the '10 pick in the KT trade.

No, that was illegal. They couldn't trade the 08 and the 09 picks because they are consecutive, thus, they traded the 08 and 10.

Didn't we have this conversation before the draft? The rule is you can't be without a first round pick in consecutive years. The Suns will have the Atl pick next year so they would be free to trade their '09 pick. The only way they couldn't trade their '09 pick is if they traded both theirs and Atl's '08 pick.

No, the rule is that a team cannot leave itself without A first-round pick in two consecutive future drafts. Had they traded their own 08 and 09 picks, they would have still had the Atlanta 08 pick, so they would have been okay.

SunsTzu's theory makes sense. It may not be correct, but it makes sense.

My bad, you're right. Slipped my mind. What can I say? It's my day off and thinking isn't exactly a priority today.

Yeah, but you need to leave yourself the option of trading the Atlanta pick if somebody really good becomes an option. Who knows what could happen, but not having the ability to trade it could be a terrible thing.
