I hope some of the players the Pacers waived are worth signing.

Now the Suns can concentrate on Durant or whoever else they might be interested in signing.

I wonder if that's 'official'.
The clock wasn't supposed to start until midnight.

I wonder then, if matching, equals the same.

The contract, doesn't go into effect, as well as the match, until midnight...

So Pacers, if you actually want Ayton, you have until midnight to trade for him. (theory)

I'm glad Ayton didn't burn any bridges like Joe Johnson did by saying he didn't want the Suns to match Atlanta's offer.

Done already. Good. Matching quicklyy says a little something positive to DA, I guess.
Does it? Not Sure. It depends. I am not sure it says much to Ayton other than The Suns were not willing to let him walk for nothing or the value they thing he was worth.

The conversation with Ayton and his agent could have remained amicable.

The Suns probably already told them them they would match any offer sheet.

Sure it does. They signed it immediately, without question. No waiting, no dangling, no giving any sense that they might not want to pay him the money. That extra $18 million just on next year's pay will make it hard for him to be miffed. This is the way sports negotiations go.

I'm happy they matched it quick. Maybe to signal to Ayton that he is very much wanted here.
We likely won’t know. It could simply signal the for the Suns this was transactional and no way in hell are they going to let Ayton walk for nothing regardless.

I expect a warm and fuzzies PR statement from the Suns about wanting him all along.

I'm glad the Suns matched, but I can't believe they didn't like any combination of assets the Pacers had. I find it more likely that they always intended to match.
