Steelers. Not only great history but a contender seemingly every year.

PS: I HATE THE STEELERS. But they are still my answer.

Now if you asked me the best team in the last 20 years? Patriots no question.

Racine Legion in part of their long time coach Babe Ruetz.

Close call but after studying pre-S.B. championship games, as well as modern S.B. champions and playoff teams, I give a slight nod to the N Y Giants.

Did you know that at one time they went and played in 7 out of 8 Championship Games. They went to the playoff Games in every decade, with one exception - the 70s. And they have participated in more post season games than any team.

I guess you could say they have easily had the longest and even the most consistently good teams for going on 90 years now.

PS. one other reason I chose the Giants is that they aren't the Steelers, who I hate the most due to their success against my favorite teams going back to my childhood, over 50 yrs.

Based entirely on NFL Championships won, the list is missing at least five top franchises: Bears (9), Redskins (5), Browns (8), Colts (4), and Lions (4).

That is almost a list of all the teams I hate.

The Chefs? Really?

All time, the Packers have 13 titles. Hard to argue with that, IMHO.

Counting Super Bowls only, the Steelers have 6 titles.

It is pretty close between the 49ers and the Steelers IMO. I can't decide which one.

I ignore pre-Superbowl era because I have very little knowledge to intelligently speak about it.

Packers. Easily.

Most titles ever. Smallest market team. Owned by community.

Then you aren't basing your decision on the criteria listed in the question. All time means all time...

The title says 'The Best Franchise of all Time.' It didn't say at all HOW to quantify best. Everyone has their own opinion of 'best' and why.

While I believe that the Steelers have fielded the best teams for the longest period of time, I have to go with the Packers as the best franchise because of the way they were founded and have remained. They are the ONLY franchise to remain basically a community owned and controlled team that still exists as it did from the beginning as a town team of the Green Bay Wisconsin community. The ticket holders still fill their stadium each game day, and basically shut down the town for the game festivities. That is what I envision as the true spirit of a community invested franchise.

They are an anomaly as they are a one sports team town in an incredibly small TV market. Every game is an event. Something that is lost today.

interesting thing about the Steelers...and no one seems to remember now...prior to the 1970's, the Steelers were probably the WORST franchise in the NFL. They were truly a 'laughing stock'. I don't know if they even had a winning season until - all of sudden - everything came together for them in the early 70's. The pre-70's Steelers were a worse franchise than the Cardinals BY FAR. I would bet they had one of the worst W-L records in the league prior to the 70's...at the very least, they were at the bottom of the league. (2 playoff appearances in 30 years, 1941-1972)...BUT the 70's happen and ever since they have been one of the BEST franchise's in the NFL. I keep hoping that's the Cardinals story one day (hope I live long enough to remind people of it). Given this, the PACKERs are a MUCH better franchise over all by a long shot.

I'm not sure they have the most fans anymore. They are no longer America's team. Haven't been for quite some time.

I have to give it to the Steelers, as much as I hate them with a passion. 6 Super Bowls, they've been to 8, dominated the 70's, were a non-factor for the 80's, but once Cowher took over in 1992, they've been a playoff team or contender for the overwhelming majority of over 30 years. That's ridiculous.

Exactly. As a kid in the 60's, the Steelers were a joke. It's the Packers with 13 championships & no one is even close.

Based my vote on the Superbowl era to include most teams. By the standard I think the Steelers are the easy choice. Most appearences, most wins, and almost always a contender eventhough the owner didn't open his wallet pre-salary cap. Cowboys are probably 2nd on that list.

Extenting the scope to pre-Superbowl. It has to between the Packers or Bears.

Limiting the scope to salary-cap era. Patriots easily. Amazing that they have been able to be a contender over such a long period.
