1. Kobe--no doubt

2. Lebron-second best O not even in the top 50 in D

3. Duncan-great and smart

4. Chris Paul-best PG in the game

5. Gil Arenas-unguardable

6. Carmelo (syracuse homerism)-unguardable but no D

7. Caron Butler (Maryland homerism)-unselfish to a fault-great at everything IMO

8. Nash-Maybe he should be higher, but I dont watch many Sun's games

just to clarify, when i say fantasy draft, i'm NOT referring to fantasy points and all that stuff. i just mean we're playing real games on the real court in a fantasy world where everyone is redrafted, but only for 1 season, and payroll is irrelevant.

in that sense, i have no idea why you wouldn't pick the best player right now first.

One season, right now? Kobe, not even close.

If I'm drafting for the long term, I go with LBJ.

1) lebron averages more points than Kobe
2) name 49 defenders better than lebron. his defense is great on positions 2-4.
3) since when is paul the best pg in the game? he has won nothing in the playoffs, and isn't even a better shooter or passer than nash.
4) Gilbert Arenas is very easily guardable. he isn't that prolific of a scorer by any means. For his career he has 23 points, 36% from 3, and only 43% from the field.

how did kevin garnett or dirk (last year's mvp) not make your list?
i can think of a whole bunch of players that are better than arenas too. how about tracy mcgrady, yao, ginobili, amare, paul pierce, chauncey, rip hamilton, rasheed wallace, dwight howard? all of those players are better than arenas, and most of them are better than butler too.

If I was drafting today I would say Lebron. It's tough because right now I give an edge to Kobe because Kobe has that killer instinct to drain very difficult in your face shots. Kobe has the experience. Kobe also also seems to know when to take over a game at the right moment. So why Lebron?

Lebron is younger, averages more points per game, more rebounds per game, more assists per game, more blocks per game, and shoots a better percentage from the floor. Lebron when he is done will be a better all around player then Kobe. What is even sicker is Lebron is just as athletic and he is playing forward versus guard. I also think Lebron makes players around him better more so then Kobe. Kobe for years has had that selfish moniker and you have to surround him with more talent then a player like Lebron to be successful. Look no further then the top 6 players on both rosters. I think Lebron does more with less.

If I was drafting for 1 season then Kobe. However, that's sort of a stupid question. Why would I draft for 1 season? If this is not fantasy then I am drafting for the future of my franchise. if I am drafting for my franchise and overall longevity then for me it's not a contest...Lebron.

Agreed, but since this is a one season question, it has to be Kobe. If we are going multiples it is LeBron because of his age and talent level.

the question is not stupid if the reason you're asking is that you want to know who is the best RIGHT NOW...
