no -- he caught the ball with 4 secs left

if tackled in bounds, the game is over

now -- im not convinced that tackling him in bounds was a 100% sure thing. I think there was a decent chance Diggs could have gotten out of bounds in time, and, they were in FG range where he caught it

agreed. Unless he just made the perfect, dead on the spot tackle, Diggs is catching the ball and already near the sideline. He gets out of bounds, they have a 47 yard FG to kick and they still lose. Not to mention everyone is talking as if you can pull the old emergency break running full speed to make the perfect tackle. That doesn't happen much folks.

eh... I just watched it again. That's a pretty awful play. Still think there's a chance for Diggs to get out of bounds, but it's a really awful play.

Was talking with a friend about this and we both agreed that Keenum also had something to do with the outcome, and not because he threw a great pass. It was a noodle arm desperation throw which arrived late and made it possible because most NFL QBs would have made a great pass at the distance which is far more accurate and that is exactly the kind of pass the defense was expecting and that would have been defended. Sometimes having a weak arm has its benefits as when Plummer that one time threw a duck to I believe Martay Jenkins, which he was able to catch and beat the Eagles on the last second attempt because he under threw the coverage

Another aspect I haven't seen talked about much is that Williams also took out #20 on his team as well. He might have had a shot to tackle Diggs as well.

This is a great angle.

Between all the pass interference calls and the whiff, I am thinking the Saints secondary was on the take to throw that game...

I agree

I think part of the reason this happened as well is because of the rules that have hindered a defensive players targeting area as well, the fines, hitting a defenses player, etc.

Maybe he thought the pass was uncatchable & he was going to take his legs out thus receiving a personal foul. Just a thought

Or... just a thought... He thought Diggs was not going to jump for it and continue running for it, hence hitting him clean right where the ball would have been had he not jumped for it. This would've forced the WR back inside as well, tackling him in-bounds, ending the game.

Granted, wrap the hell up, but there is a line of thought that makes sense here, even instinctively as they're playing the game.
