The Break-Up

Release Date: June 2, 2006
Studio: Universal Pictures
Director: Peyton Reed
Screenwriter: Jeremy Garelick, Jay Lavender
Genre: Comedy, Romance
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for sexual content, some nudity and language)
Website: The Break-Up

Starring: Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Aniston, Joey Lauren Adams, Ann-Margret, Judy Davis, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jon Favreau, Cole Hauser, John Michael Higgins, Justin Long

Plot Summary: Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston star in "The Break-Up," which starts where most romantic comedies end: after boy and girl have met, fallen in love, moved in to start their happily-ever-after…and right when they wind up driving each other crazy.

Pushed to the breaking-up point after their latest "why can't you do this one little thing for me?" argument, art dealer Brooke (Aniston) calls it quits with her boyfriend, Gary (Vaughn), who hosts bus tours of Chicago. What follows is a series of remedies, war tactics, overtures and underminings suggested by the former couple's friends, confidantes and the occasional total stranger. When neither ex is willing to move out of the condo they used to share, the only solution is to continue living as hostile roommates until somebody caves.

But somewhere between protesting the pool table in the living room, the dirty clothes stacked in the kitchen cupboards and the sports played at sleep-killing volume in the middle of night, Brooke begins to realize that what she may be really fighting for isn't so much the place but the person.

"The Break-Up" stars Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston under the direction of Peyton Reed ("Bring It On," "Down with Love"). The writers are Jeremy Garelick, Jay Lavender and Vince Vaughn, who produces.

A woman better be dragging you to it.

Well, I will be using it to lure the wedding girl out. Plus it has Vince Vaughn in it.

Rule #837: No movie starring VV could be considered a chick flick.

Please? Vince Vaughn is in it...

Replace VV with Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Perry or that dude from Will and Grace and NEZ is correct; no self-respecting man should go see this film.

Well, I like Matthew Perry....so I'd have no self-respect I guess.

Also Hugh Grant...

What has Vince Vaughn done to be considered a "MAN WORTHY" actor??

The only time I've paid any attention to Vaughn was when he made Anthony Perkins spin in his grave, with that pathetic performance in Psycho.

OMG...I just realized I'm a total film snob.

Dude...first off, the ultimate MAN WORTHY movie..."Swingers"....that alone is all I would need.

But Old School and Wedding Crashers were huge...

I admit, I'm a film snob. Just realized. I can't bring myself to watch those two movies. For some reason I just can't ever get into Comedies.

The Jerk is probably my favorite comedy of all time, I like humor like that. Weird stuff.

Exactly. Plus, D-Dogg is my life's version of VV, 50% Trent and 50% Beanie with a little Frank the Tank mixed in.

Dude...you better be dragging a WOMAN to it. Vince Vaughn is a man amongst men...a veritible GOD of man.

VV = Man

There is no truer equation...not even in nazaquadrian logic can a truer analysis be made.

You're beyond a snob if you don't like comedies either...

I'm kind of a snob where I wont go see crappy movies like XXX, or Fast and the Furious, White Chicks, etc...but if I know a movie is good, or really funny, I'll go.

Man, this thread makes me miss the good ol' Days at SDS, sittin' amongst a bunch of Cowboy fans.

I'll try to think of the Comedies in the Last 5 years I liked:

Napoleon Dynamite
Office Space for sure

(um, what else has come out??)

Dang, Office Space was 7 years ago?!?

I have gone on record that Anchorman is the best comedy since Dumb and Dumber. To deny yourself experiencing this movie at least 10x is borderline criminal. Maybe D-Dogg will give you one of his extra copies.

I don't know if anybody ever watched a little show that used to be on Comedy Central: Upright Citizen's Brigade......

It was hilarious.

Even money. Anchorman is a touch better, perhaps. But I've worked in both environments, so Anchorman was like Office Space 2 to me.

Anchorman was very funny at times, but overall I didn't really like it either.

Well, we saw this movie today and I was frankly surprised how much I liked it after all the bad reviews.

All the talk in this thread about Vince Vaughn, how hilarious he is, the movies he's done....this isn't one of those movies.

Sure, there are funny parts....and you laugh...but it's not a romantic comedy like the normal formula you always see.

It's a bit more hard and realistic and I for one liked it. My wife too.
