That entire post and this is the one thing you pull out of it? :)

I wasn't clear but my point was if you wanted a WR like John Brown (taken in the 2nd), you could have had Brandin Cooks in the 1st vs Bucannon (is he even in the league anymore?).

I would argue that Cooks' career has been better than John Brown. BTW, Cooks was a 1st round pick, he has been traded for 2 #1 picks, and a 2nd round pick. He is doing something right.

FWIW - we took Troy Niklas in round 2 that year (1 spot ahead of Davonte Adams)

Brown was a 3rd round pick

stop Brandon Cooks isn’t that good dude.

Greatest TE draft class of all time and they all sucked. Hindsight is 20/20

my belief:

the Wednesday shows on 98.7 will be the ones to listen to

Keims take will be stated in the form of "here is what i am thinking..." by Wolfley

and "here is what i am hearing..." from Gambo

we will have a good sense of the three players or so they are looking to take at #8, and if not, where they would like to trade back to and the players in the mix at that spot

if you go by what has been said to date by those guys:

I think Keim wants Simmons/Brown/Okudah at #8, or, trade back into the teens and take Henry Ruggs.

or

i could be 100% completely wrong. can't wait!

This is a plausible theory. Is there any track record of Wolf and/or Gambo calling picks correctly? I recall Gambo blowing the 2018 draft pretty badly.

a couple points:

1.yes, but i cant give you links. I would throw Somers in that mix too when he was the beat writer.

2. its a subtlety, but: Gambo contacts with the Cards are just "ok". the pre draft stuff he gets thats worthwhile is purely as a function of him being the pm drive time host at the Cards flagship station. I suspect Mark Dalton, SVP of Comms for the Cards gives key guys at 98.7 a "on background" briefing sometime next week on what the Cards will try to do Thursday.

someone should press Gambo on whether he’s being given a job to smooth the runway for the team. I strongly suspect he is and that’s pretty bad.

just to keep a record of these things:

Gambo today is emphatic that if the Cards go O-line, it will NOT be Wills

Wirfs and Thomas are the top 2 tackles for the Cards

again, FWIW

so Gambo is rolling out "his 5" that the Cards are targeting at #8 by day:

so far:

Simmons
Brown
Tristan Wirfs

nothing earth shaking, but simply saving for posterity

They have to get value to move down. It’s entirely possible no one bites and they end up taking the moral equivalent of Haason Reddick—the top-rated second-tier player on their board.

FWIW, I think this is how they ended up with Bucannon, Nkemdiche and Humphries, as well.
I think Isaiah Simmons is the real deal.

But I don't think that's a reality pick. There are a few we're looking at.

We need o line. Everyone says it we all know it. Kiem will lose his job if he screws this up. Sure we can trade down and still get a goodie.

If we go wr....get Juedy
If we go trade down. Get an o lineman.

Look the windows start after this year. No draft especially this year is going to be a movie where we make the SB and win it. Let's build.

Passing on Simmons would certainly qualify as "Keim screwing things up".

If Simmons or Brown are there at 8, we'll take one of them. If not, I think it'll be Lamb. There's no way we're taking Jeudy over Lamb. Don't see us going OL, unless we trade down.

Geez. A few dozen of us could have came up with this list.

Absolutely, Slanidrac! I agree with the starting post that the Cards will telegraph what they will do. Either they will take one of the best players, or they will trade back.

morning show update / for those that cant listen:

Doug/Wolf/ Paul C:

consensus is: Simmons/Brown/Okudah is the target at #8

if not there: its all about trading down.

nothing shocking, but they are beating the trade down angle heavy
