It's right around the corner and I'm excited for a few reasons:

1. I'll be watching live. Most years, in NY, I'd expect to see it about 3AM on Friday. At the earliest.
2. A chance to make money, if I were a betting man, which I'm not. The papers in NY have the Cardinals as a two point favorite. With KM expecting to play a series or two, and with our backup QB's not very good, I would think that the Chargers are a lock. Only concern is that, as we know, Las Vegas usually knows what they're doing.
3. First offensive play for Az will tell me how much faith KK has in KM. I'm guessing it will be a pass play and if it is a safe swing pass to the RB, DJ or CE, I'm guessing that KK is playing it safe. Anything else, I'm thinking KK has a lot of faith in his QB.

Come on Thursday night!!

My wife and I got a sitter so that we could go out to this game. We should leave by halftime, I think. Hopefully we won't spend more time driving out to the game than at it.

Two things I noticed during the scrimmage portion of the red/white practice that I think can be filed under "hiding things":
  • There were no deep shots in the portion that I watched (Basically until the scrubs came in). I have a hard time believing that there won't be a more vertical aspect to the design of this offense.
  • On a third-and-eight Murray threw a little dumpoff screen to the RB, which seemed more reminiscent of Mike McCoy's offense than the revolution we were promised. I don't expect the Cards to show any of their real third down packages, and I hope Murray doesn't put himself at risk by running for meaningless first downs.

We all know about Vanilla, but I think that KM wants to see if he'll be able to "scamper" in the NFL. And it seems that he knows about getting down or out of bounds. Let's hope so.

My fear is the game carried before it will run over and by the time they switch to our game KM will have been removed.
If you have cable or satellite, you might want to check your schedule for an NFLN rebroadcast and record that. I believe the rebroadcast is scheduled for Friday AM at 4:00 EDT.

Also - In recent years, the local FOX Sports channel hasn't blacked out its satellite coverage of the first preseason game and you might try to record it (Sat. 5:30 pm EDT) - the side benefit is you get local AZ anncrs (Note FOX's blackout policy is very unreliable, and you never know whether you'll get a satisfactory replay).

Whatever the case, the first Cardinal preseason telecast is always an adventure.

I was just talking about in case the other game went late - also, it might actually be blacked out on NFLN here in Vegas on account of being on local channels and them getting that coverage (we get a lot of LA and AZ broadcasts, worst of both worlds in this case).

I'm recording 3 broadcasts of the game (2 on NFLN - including the "live" one) and the local FOX taped telecast (in the hope that one won't get blacked out).

Yet, you can guarantee there will be tons of “sky is falling/:championship:” threads.

I try to avoid watching preseason games. The only thing of note that can happen is an important player getting injured. Perhaps the most fateful example in the league is Trent Green getting his knee ripped in a meaningless game for the Rams (which opened the door for Warner). But, as far as the Cardinals go, the Jonathan Cooper broken leg should serve as our lesson
