The last few days have been notably quiet on the rumor front about top of the draft players except for some proposals that the picks be traded. However, about a week ago there was a lot of talk that Josh Childress of Stanford might go in the top five.
I'm skeptical and draftcity.tk published an article that suggested that the Childress boomlet was just hype. However, if true, it would substantially alter which players will available when the Suns draft at #7.
Most people assume that one if not all the top three picks will get traded, but the likely picks will remain the same:
1. Orlando - Okafor
2. Clippers - Howard
3. Chicago - Deng
4. Charlotte is likely to take any of those three if any of them drop, but baring that it continues to sound like they are interested in Livingston. However, recent reports suggest that there are some within the Bobcats organization that prefer Childress over Livingston.
5. Washington was reported interested in Biedrins several weeks ago, but were reported interested in Childress last week. Is this serious, or just a smoke screen?
The Biedrins rumor was based on the Wizzards general dissatisfaction with their young big men. Biedrins is likely to be the best big man on the board. But with the rumors that Euros are falling out of favor, they may be more focused on a backup for the oft injured Stackhouse.
6. Atlanta is expected to try to trade up to get Howard. If that doesn't happen, I would think they would be looking at Josh Smith. He's from Georgia and is reputed to be a very exciting player.
If Atlanta trades with the Clippers, then I would expect them to take Gordon or Harris.
In this scenerio, Childress becomes a major wild card. If he DOES go to Washintong, the Suns could potentially have a choice of:
Biedrins
Iggy
Gordon
Harris
I like Biedrins, but until the Suns work him out it is not clear if they do. The other three are good players who could contribute but probably not make a huge difference.
One passing through, the Suns might trade down with Cleveland if Biedrins is not there or they don't want him. Cleveland is supposed to be interested in Gordon or Harris, but figure neither will be available at #10.
