It was a lot better than I thought. The best part was the boxing. At the end it was sad to see the loser leave. His last words were, "where do I go from here?"

Next episode is this Thursday. Looks like NBC could have something big in "The Contender."

Ummmmmm so basically I am hooked.

I mean A) it's got hot buff guys gettin all dirty and sweaty and B) it's got the tug at your heart endings when the guy loses and has to leave and face his family C) really ridiculously hot buff guys... was that clear?

Who knew boxing was this interesting!!

I'm surprised I couldn't find a thread about the contender or maybe I just missed it

But anyways who saw Najai Turpin (contestant that commited suicide) fight last episode, that was very sad

Its a good show, and those guys are good fighters. Next great champ sucked cause those guys really didnt fight that well. These guys really step it up. They came and gave an open call to go to Vegas to try out for this about 9 months ago at my gym but I dont have any amatuer fights under my belt yet so I couldnt do it. And I couldnt spell amatuer on the application. and I couldnt spell application. ..nevermind.

I love how Sly pretends to know all about boxing. He's an actor for freaking sake!

Great show by the way. Mark Burnett is a genius! I love how they edit the boxing matches. The SlowMo is really used effectively! Plus they do a great job of letting you get to know the "human" side of the different boxers.

Sly is not a pro boxer by any means but he really does know alot about boxing. He loves the sport, and when he trained for the Rocky movies he went thru hardcore training just like if he was going to fight. I still think he is a douch on the show sometimes though.

I didn't like the "#1 Dad" guy.... It's cool to love your kids and all, but he wouldn't shut up about it. ...and what's with that hat he wears?
I was torn and was glad the jesus freak got laid out, especially when I saw how hot his girlfriend was

He was in the show... the way they edited was messed up. They had him hugging his kid saying how he couldn't wait to start the rest of his life etc...

Damn! Joey Gilbert has a heart of gold. If it weren't for that head butt he would have won that fight. Depending on how bad Jessie is hurt I'd say this is the guy from Mexico's tournement to lose (can't remember his name right now ) He is tough as nails....

Joey and Jessie are the most in shape guys in the tourney and that is showing that it is meaning more than anything at this point

i liked anthony ... was crazy that he got rocked ... jessie hits pretty hard

i like jessie, but he was very whiney last night ... kind of obnoxious

the great thing about this program is that I now have the fiance asking to go watch boxing

I like Anthony except for this "I'm the world's best dad" crap. Like no other fighter is going out there putting it all on the line for his kids. This guy makes it sound like he is a saint. If I had to watch him burst into tears one more time about being such a great father I was going to vomit in my mouth


That said, Jessie got really lucky with that punch especially since he had the pulled hammy, had to lose 9 lbs in a matter of days (including 1 lb on fight day) and just really wasn't in it emotionally.
