Everyone is concerned about touching the center. That's not the part violated. The section that I think should has been used reads,

"Placing a hand or hands on a teammate or opponent to gain additional height to block or attempt to block an opponent’s kick. "

Notice the rusher puts his hands on teammates to be able to vault the center. The rule doesn't state the rusher has to block the kick at the apex of his jump for this to be a violation. It simply says you can't use fellow players in the process. That makes the attempt clearly illegal. In fact even if he missed the ball entirely it's still a penalty to use other players in the attempt.

For those who are Conspiracy Theorists, going back to last week's Seattle-Atlanta game, you have a lot more fodder. Reminds me of , "Fool me once............".

I just watched the play several times on YouTube/internet.. on the first kick Wagner does place his hand on the guy next to him to stabilize himself but not to gain more height, didn't look like leveraging

I'm not going to complain about that play. That was a great play by a great player. There are about 5 other places we completely blew that game. The guards are going to have to account for that in the future.

I didn't say they lost the game due to this call. I did say they interpreted the rule wrong. The rule says nothing about leverage. It does say gaining height. I only got a B in physics and I'll gladly yield to an A student. That said my recollection is that maintaining thrust in a straight line would increase height.

Of course the Cards' failure to adjust or prepare was astonishing. They've run this play before.

If you need to use physics to justify whether something was or was not a penalty, I'd argue you are in the realm of subjectivity from an officiating standpoint. :)

Here is the shot of what Harry (and Jay Feely) are referring to...they are both absolutely correct - should have been a penalty.

A nice hard count would have been sufficient as well. I don't think he could have stopped and if he did he would have been within a yard of the center.

The even more sickening thing about that last blown kick is that I heard Jay Feely talking this morning & he said Catmans make % is I believe 10% less from the left hash mark vs the right! :bang:

I wonder if Amos or BA knew that? I bet not! Hmmmm
Things like that can't go unnoticed IMO

I can't believe that they didn't run the ball to the center of the field. Not that it mattered much for Hauschka.

You'd think, at least Amos Jones would! FWIW, the person who tipped Bobby Wagner off about our snapper's low tendencies was his...you guessed it: special teams coach.

I can't really tell from that pic if the left hand is actually touching the teammate? The right hand is apparently ok because the OL was standing up as Wagner was jumping over so any contact is incidental in that he didn't use his right hand to leverage the jump.

On the hardcount comment on the one Cat missed I was saying that before the snap. You knew Wagner was going to try it again they should have done a hard count. Both he and Sherman would have been offsides. Would have been first and goal, of course they would have spotted the ball at the 2 or something similar the way they spotted on that drive

We were just off to the left in this picture, watching that ball sail ridiculously far. A S.A.F.E. worker down behind the end zone seating caught the ball.
