I was on cloud nine. Not before or since was i as pumped up after a player acquisition as i was when we landed Barkley. Amazing day.

The difference with the Barkley trade is we were trading up in talent. Trading Bledsoe for "picks" or promising young players would be trading down in talent in the short term.... potentially long term too if the players we get don't pan out. Bledsoe for his supposed shortcomings is far ahead in one area...he's the real deal right now. He's producing not dangling promise.

In a van...down by the river.

I was only commenting on Raze statement that he wasn't happy losing Horny for Barkley.

Too your point...obviously two very different circumstances regarding where the '92 team was compared to the '16 team and making a trade.

This is easy, cut jones Jr and Millsap.

Take your eyes away from jones jr. high flying slams and he has nothing except for a decent defender.

I want to trade Bledsoe precisely because Watson will then be forced to start Ulis. Ulis will get the other four players on the floor more involved and more confident that if they make the right cuts they will get the ball where they can get off a good shot. With Bled running the show we get far too much ISO ball and hence more stagnation. Most everyone here has remarked that Ulis ran the offense better than Eric does so I'm just taking the next logical step.
I've said ever since Bled's first year that I'd like to have him as the backup point guard because he'd not only give us a change of pace on offense, with shorter minutes he could go all out on defense the way he did backing up Chris Paul on the Clips. That's still my thinking but I don't attribute the smarts to figure it out to Watson so we have to force his hand.
We also need to replace Watson if we're ever going to contend but starting Ulis is a step in the right direction while McD comes to the realization that Earl doesn't cut it.

Trying to figure out why starting Ulis is a step in the right direction. Giving him minutes? Sure. But even though he had a few good games as a starter at the end of next year doesn't make him an everyday starting PG in the NBA.

I would think getting the best possible players at every position is the ultimate step in the right direction. Right now, 27-year-old Eric Bledsoe is the best Phoenix Sun at the PG position. You don't trade your best player just because you want to start a guy who isn't ready. Don't get the Eric hate.

There is no need to cut Jones Jr. The Suns roster will likely change and the Suns can keep up to 17 players on the roster. His salary will only be $1,312,611 next season. If nothing else the Suns can use him in a trade.

I hear your points..well taken. But starting Ulis would be a big jump for him... I think it's too soon. Plus we need Eric's offense.

Ulis being backup seems good but we can up his minutes or maybe even start him once in a while to see how he does.

I wonder if the Suns ever had a plan to trade Bled or if that was part of the whole charade to throw Ainge off the trail of JJ.

I had the thought that right after the lotto the Suns started concocting a plan to get Jackson.

I don't think the Suns were actively shopping Bledsoe but they were listening to offers. One thing I thought was weird is that there was a lot of talk of the Suns moving up for Ball that started a few days before the draft and then on draft day Bledsoe responded to a tweet about the odds that Lavar walked on stage with Lonzo when his name was called. I found that to be odd only because at that point it wasn't clear if the Suns were interested in moving up for him or not, at least not to the fans, so he probably knew already what their real plan was.
