I saw it today. It's great fun. Nobody is going to win an Oscar. It's to extreme to be believable.......but, it was still cool. If you are one to critique a movie harshly, don't see it. If you go to the movies for fun ----- go.

Saw it last night. Awesome. Great special effects. I didn't think the story line or acting was that bad either. The precise chain of events was far fetched, but the global warming theme certainly has a factual basis IMO. What I didn't like was feeling stressed out for about an hour during the seemingly non stop "bad things" that kept happening. It was a little overwhelming.

I'd rather see this than Troy...we saw it today, and loved it.

Sure, not like an Oscar-caliber movie, obviously, but very entertaining, edge of your seat moments...and I liked the actors in it, and the storylines.

Highly enjoyable. FX were unbelievable.

Yeah I'm thinking of watching this movie now after my brother told me it was good.

The special effects were pretty cool. The story is not just far fetched but it is impossible. I kind of wish this movie had come out a month ago so I could hear my physical geography professor rip it apart. Armed with one semesters worth of knowledge in that class (I got an A, by the way) I can tell you why this stuff is not possible. Just ask and I'll get into it.

A teaser...
A low pressure system developing over an area dominated by High pressure? pfft

The SEA water freezing in new york city? (anyone ever make ice cream?)

Instant glaciers? No thats not how they are formed.

Ice ages are predominatly caused by a shift in the angle the earth faces the sun. Which is typically about 22 degrees. It shifts as far as 25 degrees during ice ages. Cooler summers are the cause of glaciers, as they are formed by centuries of snowfall that is not fully melted by the unusually cold summers. The snow compacts into sheets of ice due to its sheer weight.

I think humans are a bit too proud of our own abilities. It takes thousands of years to develope into an ice age and to form SLOW moving glaciers. We are man though, we can do that in a week.

In a different science course, Geology and Natural Disasters, I had the dubious honor of attempting to prove global warming is not caused by humans. There are charts that show the change in temperature mimics the amount of solar energy being produced (I could dig them up if anyone wants to see them, otherwise just look through intellicast.com for info). In fact, in the early 1960's solar energy had decreased so much and temperatures were colder than usual the northern parts of the western and eastern hemespheres that scientists were concerned that the planet may be slipping back into an ice age. There is no substantial proof that the ice ages have totally ended, we could just be in one of the 15,000 year warming periods between ice ages, which can last 100,000 years.

I know that I get too caught up in these movies, and some of you may be able to argue a different point of view, but I can't enjoy a movie in which everything that happens seems totally incorrect.

Cool special effects, horrible story and ungodly acting.

There are a thousand theories on how things work. This was just another one of those.

I enjoyed the movie tremendously, no matter how outrageous the science aspect was...what I liked was that the characters had believable reactions to the chain of events. The special effects were amazing and I thought the acting was pretty good.

I saw this one over the weekend and then say Deep Impact the next day on TV. Gotta say I liked Deep Impact better - more human subplots.

I thought this movie was a lot of fun. Also, a great movie to see on a summer day in Phoenix.

I am wondering though... is Dennis Quaid always this bad of an actor?

Recently watched it. I thought it was so-so. I agree with everyone else on the special effects, very cool. The acting was weak, so it dragged at times. Worth watching once I guess.
