I know I'm gonna grilled & flamed on this one...but please go back & watch the play in slow-mo. I just saw it replayed on NFL Network & think part of the problem was the throw. I know you guys are already laughing & screaming...but wait.;) Yeah sure Doucet slowed down & didnt continue upfield, but Skelton was hurried & had to move to his right causing the throw to be thrown a second late. Instead of the ball being thrown at Early or inside of a wide open WR, the throw was oustide & on his left causing him to turn & trip.

Watch it again guys without hatred towards Early & I think you might agree. An inaccurate throw that by John IMO. Hell, I'm not even sure Doucet would've even caught it anyways given the throw. Fire away & grill me!!!

I thought possibly Early knew it was an all out blitz and thought he better be looking for the ball right away.

I agree 100%...The ball was way to the right of him...the bad thing is...watch the replay again....He had another WR wide open a little further right too....Shelton just had to get the ball there.....but saying that....Doucet should be athletic enough...not to fall on his butt...if he had any grace he could have spun and I think make the catch.

seriously though, it may not be a perfect throw, but it was very catchable had Doucet not fallen. These are the types of plays you are expected to make as an athlete. The ball is not going to come always between your numbers.

Just saw the replay and it looked like the throw was off but I think Doucet could have adjusted to make the catch

Yeah I did notice Larod wide open on the wheel route

Just saw it again...terrible throw by Skelton. Not defending Early, but I'm still not 100% sure its catchable

I did too, just now... it was a floater and definitely catchable. The ball fell just past the middle of the end zone, Early falls just inside the end zone. If he is running his route without turning so "early", he has it right in his hands. Skelton played a piss poor game but that ball is catchable.

Perfect throw and totally catchable if he just runs like he should and doesn't back pedal.

that was at least a 6 man blitz with a man coming clean off the right edge

Skelton didn't throw the best pass, but it sure was good enough

Like someone else said the Bengals have a #2 that does a flip into the endzone for a TD and we have a #2 that can't even run into the endzone without falling down.

Add his failure to make any kind of athletic catches and his injury history for most of his career and Doucet needs to be history.

From Warner, Fitz,Boldin, and Breaston to Skelton, Fitz, Doucet and Roberts in just 2 seasons. And they still throw the ball 45 times a game. :bang:

There just wasn't a reason for him to turn around and run backwards. It really doesn't matter where the throw was, no WR should ever do that.

He would have ran his original route it would have been way to the right of him floating by after looking at the play, Skelton did not look like he even knew where to throw it after watching the replay...Doucet breaking his route to redirect looked like what made him stumble... oh well, it still stunk

It happens, I wasnt mad at all. Anyone who was needs to reevaluate themselves. Guy works his ass off, he doesnt need to hear the criticisms of arm chair quarterbacks. Nobody on earth feels worse than Early Doucet right now, theres no reason to kick him when hes down.

Besides theres a handful of other plays I can point to that were just as bad.

-Heap missing that block on Larrys screen, wouldve been a TD or 1st down, guaranteed. Heap is a veteran, that was 100x worse than Earlys fall.

-The playcalling in general after the 1st fumble where we kicked a FG. We went back to the BS that we were running for 3 quarters. Flats pass, stuffed. Handoff, stuffed at the line.

etc.

Leave the guy alone. Makes me sick to hear holier-than-thou people talk down to those who are already hurting.

I'm more mad right now at our OL and Skelton's inability to play 4 whole quarters well. In reality, Skelton and Kolb have stumbled more than Doucet missing a ton of give me completions and TDs

Skelton likely throws the route as it was pre snap. But Doucet changes into the hot read and Skelton doesn't adjust to the situation on the field. You can clearly see that Doucet stops, changes his route and turns around for the hot read and waits and waits, while Skelton moments after throws it deep. There is no way to adjust from the hot read to the original route. Doucet had adjusted like he should. This one is 100% on Skelton, he played a horrible game and IMO hasn't played a good game yet for this football team.

so is pretty funny how people put the blame on skelton ..he had a blitz from 5 guys and he threw a nice ball considering the presssure..doucet was all alone and tackled himself was a very poor athletic action...

He didn't throw a nice ball. He should have thrown short on the hot read to Doucet. That's why he (Doucet) stopped and turned around for the football. Too bad Skelton didn't understand the situation and threw it deep instead. But Skelton has been doing that all game long, in fact he has been doing that since day one, so that's not a major surprise for me.

And it's 6 man rush they send against a 5 man route, so it left 5 in the secondary against 5 receivers. It's an all out blitz in this situation. They double Fitz and Early did the right thing to look back for the football. Should have been thrown much much earlier and not deep.

Sadly, the Niners Kyle Williams has accomplished more in ONE year than Early has for his entire career. He eerily reminds me of Bryant Johnson, a guy who will make an occasional play for you, but come clutch time is hit-or-miss. Time to move on IMO.

We can tell your bias from your screen name, man. Bottom line: the throw was in a place that he could EASILY have gotten to, had he not played the WR position on that play with as much agility as I have. Read that as no agility at all.

C'mon, if Doucet doesn't fall it's a tie game. It looked to me like Fitz was also open.

If the Cards had the two main missing ingredients on this team...competent offensive tackles and a decent receiver outside of Fitz...that game and the entire season for that matter, would have been much different.
