My prediction... Dan Majerle, not because he is the most qualified but because the fan base loves him and it will help sell tickets.

Do you really believe this or did your fingers just get carried away after making a good point or two? I think it will probably be Majerle too but other than his immediate family and a couple of drinking buddies, I can't see it making any kind of impact at the box office. Well, other than the impact of firing a coach in the first place.

Majerle is one of the Suns most popular players of all time. He gives good interviews, he is funny... I dont think he would fill the building but I do think he would a cause spike in interest level before everyone remembered "oh yeah... the team stinks". And I do think it would be a much bigger peak in interest than elevating Turner (a guy many casual fans have never heard of) would receive.

I don't think Dan Majerle as head coach would sell more than 100 tickets and that would be for his first game only. the only thing that will sell tickets is consistent winning and this team ain't gonna do that for a loooooooooong time

Why would anyone pay to see him, when he would just stand in one place? Just like he used to do when he played:

Stand at the three point line, and not do anything.

I don't think Majerle would be a good HC although the Suns seem inclined to give it a try especially if Gentry were dismissed during the season. Perhaps if Majerle offered free food when the team meets certain goals he would become even more popular. :)

Why is it Gentry? I don't love his coaching ability but it's not his fault this team is losing.

It's at least partially his fault. The guy is a great coach for established guys that sort of help him run the team--like Nash and Grant Hill. But he's never been able to develop players. Nice guy, but we need more than that to win games.

You guys truly believe this team, these players, should be winning more games and that it's the coach's fault that we aren't in the hunt for the playoffs?

Who says that? I think Gentry isn't a very good basketball coach. Good with players, sure, but not so great with the x's and o's--again, that's why he did well with Nash and Hill, he didn't have to worry about it.

But to absolve the coach of any responsibility is just unrealistic. Look at his substitution and time out patterns--there are complaints in every game thread about it.

Definitely didn't say any of that, but this team can be more competitive than it's been and shouldn't be down double digits every single game like it has been. When you've got a head coach telling one of our best players to take a back seat so that a worse player can be the star and jack up a bunch of ill-advised low percentage shots then there's going to be problems. If nothing's done about this then we'll continue to piss off & lose our good players and just keep sifting through other teams thrown out garbage like Beasley. That's no way to get back to playoff competitive quality.

First off, if he really is doing this I suspect it's because he has a mandate to try and bring out the best in our big offseason acquisitions. Secondly, we've been pretty darned competitive so far and the only loss to an equal or inferior team that comes to mind is the Orlando game although the season opener was certainly a winnable matchup.

I have no idea if Gentry is doing a good job with these guys. It's too early to see if he's got a plan to develop some of the younger guys or if he's just running the same old thing because he can't think of anything else to do. But, given the contract situation, I'm pretty sure the decision has already been made about him. Shock the world and get us into the playoffs or find a new home. That's a tall order for a collection of talent that most experts put at or near the bottom of the league.

There's also no way for us to know if that's the front office's demands or the coach's. Beasley was Blanks big splash. How do you know that the FO hasn't made it a mandate to start and feature Beasley?

Edit: You beat me to it, Steve. "Mandate" reference and everything. :)

I think the Beasley push was more of a front office move than a Gentry choice. They signed this guy with the intention of him being the main force of the offense, and I think Gentry has very little lattitude to change that until it becomes blatantly obvious to everyone that Beasley is just a crappy player. And I really dont think it will take that much longer. We are so much better with Tucker in and this idea that a guy like Beasley will change his habits by being told to force his shot more is absolutely insane.

And I disagree that this team should be more competitive. In terms of talent I think we have the worst roster in the conference. The only team I think we should finish ahead of is Sacramento and only because they have the most toxic roster in basketball.

But back on the potential Majerle hire really quick. We will just have to wait and see. I really think there will be a increase in interest after they hire him, fans love the guy. I am not saying its the right move, but IMO thats what the team will do.

Gortat only does well against "lighter" centers.
