Watched it last night and really liked it. I am excited for the next two.

Got some harsh film critics here but then again I never read these books and have nothing to compare to.

Seemed to be the same type and grade of movie as the 1st trilogy to me.

I'm not at all a harsh film critic, in fact, I tend to enjoy the same movies the mindless-public flocks to and I make no apologies for that. I watch movies to be carried away from the day to day routine, I'm in it for the escapism. And I never judge movies by the books they came from, that way lies disappointment. It's a completely different medium and it's a waste of effort to try and make them mirror each other IMO. But I still hated this movie.

One of the things that bothered me was the obvious attempts to make the 8 year olds laugh or smile. I felt like I was watching Hannibal Lecter slice and dice Papa Smurf. I think you can make a movie for adults, I think you can make a movie for kids and I even think you can make a movie for both but I think it's inappropriate to make a movie for adults with moments to please the kiddies. That isn't the only thing I disliked about the movie but it's what put me on guard and perhaps left me hypercritical during the rest of it.

Purchased the BluRay and watched it again with the family. Held up really well watching it again. Can't wait for the second one to come out.

4. This is the book probably but a friend of mine noted why did they not just fly with the hawks from the beginning.

Eagles! Eagles!

The Eagles do not generally allow themselves to be used as steeds. Only because of the great respect they have for Gandalf (and the hatred for the Orcs) did they do this rescue.

I watched this again to prep for the new movie. My son and I are going to see this in the next few days. Wow....this movies was even more bloated watching it the second time around. This seriously might be the last time I ever watch this bloated mess.

At least the reviews for the second one are promising.

The second one bored me just slightly less than the first. I'll probably pass altogether on the 3rd.

Shyeah, right... :)

Always funny when people say these things. You know you'll see it, we all know it too. :D

I'm with ya here. Just saw it today. Have no desire whatsoever to see the 3rd one and certainly not for 20 bucks. only reason I really went to see this one was to see it in 48 frames. I actually liked that look and wasn't expecting to but was really bored for about 2/3s of the movie.

Things I'll never get...why do the bad imprison Gandalf...and not just kill him?

Why were we supposed to feel like the Shelf fell in love with the dwarf?

Why in the world would they only make THREE black arrows to kill Smaug? You'd think, I don't know...maybe you'd make a couple more?!

Much more stupidity in here that I rolled my eyes at constantly, but those were the big three.
