The Incredibles

Plot: Once one of the world's top masked crimefighters, Bob Parr (AKA Mr. Incredible) fought evil and saved lives on a daily basis. But fifteen years later, he and his wife Helen (a famous former superhero in her own right) have been forced to take on civilian identities and retreat to the suburbs. Today they live as mere mortals and lead all-too-ordinary lives with their children... who go out of their way to appear "normal." As a clock-punching insurance man, the only thing Bob fights these days is boredom and a bulging waistline. Itching for action, the sidelined superhero gets his chance when a mysterious communication summons him to a remote island for a top secret assignment. Now, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance, the family must come together and once again find the fantastic in their family life.

Cast: Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L Jackson, Jason Lee, Elizabeth Peña.

What?
The previews were great! I hope it isn't just the previews that are good.

Saw the movie with my daughter this evening. Obviously, catching the RofS trailer was a GREAT added bonus.

I thought this movie was really good!! It's more adult than other Pixar fare, but it worked. I really, really enjoyed it.

I'm dying to see this - Wayward - were you all that impressed with the Sith trailer - I saw it last night and I started to get chills for a moment - but it was really just the old footgae - then I kinda got numbed by all the cartoonish CGI.

I thought it was really well done! The super powers and that kind of thing wasn't fake or falsely understated. The style in the movie was quite interest, very retro. I loved it.

Yeah, that CGI Vader thing looked a little fake, but I liked the new footage. The high atmosphere HUGE battle that's supposed to take place looks awesome. They really should have shown more of the duels between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Those minutes are going to be some of the best in cinematic history. And, you can never go wrong with a gaggle of Wookiees!!

I was wondering about that - Was the shot of Vader CGI - and if so - WHY THE HELL DID THAT NEED TO BE CGI?!!!!

Good lord - if we have to see any CGI Vader I will freaking puke.

Honestly, I think it was done for the trailer. And I agree with you, it would really suck to have to see CGI Vader. However, it looks like they really wanted to get the armor in the movie. And on Anakin. The 4th disk of the OT dvd's had a featurette of Vader's return.

Even non-geeks should know what CGI is. So, now you know...and as GI Joe always said: "Knowing is half the battle."

Big First Day for The Incredibles

Source: ShowBiz Data
November 6, 2004

Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles had a big first day as the animated action-comedy earned $20.9 million at the box office, which is slightly higher than "Finding Nemo"'s first day of $20.2 million. It should be another huge first weekend for a Pixar film with probably around $80 million for the three days. "The Grudge" came in at number two with $4.3 million and "Ray" at number three with $4 million.

Meanwhile, The Incredibles writer and director Brad Bird told Moviehole that he would be up for a sequel:

Well, you know, I think some people nowadays think that anytime a movie is successful it magically is a franchise and I don't think that is true of every project. I don't think that we need Jaws II, however, I do think we need Empire Strikes Back or Godfather II or Road Warrior or a Goldfinger so I think that if you get the original film makers and the intent of the original filmmakers is to equal or better the one that everyone like then they believe going in that they can do that then I would, you know, I love these characters and I would, you know, if I could do Incredibles II that was to Incredibles what Toy Story II was to Toy Story, I would do it.

Pixar hammered another home run with this one. Right now - they can do no wrong. Very impressive.

Thought the Star Wars trailer on the big screen was even worse than when I saw it on ET. Why does it look like Vader has mini-me arms?

Both of my kids had to get blood drawn today for their allergy testing. I bribed them saying if they did good, we'd go see Incredibles today. They have been anxiously awaiting to see this movie since they first saw a preview! Let's just say, they had trouble getting enough blood out of my 5 year old's teeny vein, so they had to switch to the other arm! Poor baby had to get both arms poked! But she just sat there with her face burried into me saying over and over, "I get to see the Incredibles, I get to see the Incredibles..." LOL! It was a lot quicker and easier for the 3 year old, but they both did great and yelled to the nurses as soon as they were done, "WE GET TO SEE THE INCREDIBLES NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The show starts at 4:55 and they're waiting by the door already, and it's only 2:05!!!

they are going to love it and won't think for a second about the blood being drawn once the lights go down.

Let me know how your kids do with the I's. We took our daughter to see Shark Tale and she freaked out during the first 5 minutes of the movie when the fish were supposed to look ominous. Any concerns, worries for the parent of a young one?

Saw this today...

Wasn't as funny as I hoped it would be...at least during the first half...seemed slow until the second half of the movie when the whole thing really picked up.

Pretty entertaining second half, but I would say Toy Story, Finding Nemo, etc, are all better than this one...a good addition, but just not the same magic.

Although a sequel will probably happen, and I'll see it :)

We haven't taken ours to see Shark Tale because it just looked like it would be too much for our girls by the previews alone! They LOVED Incredibles!!!!! I agree with Mike that the first half wasn't as exciting as I had hoped, but my kids were still very much into it!

**********SPOILERS (but good thing for parents to know!)***********

The scariest part of this movie for my kids was at the very end when the bad guy dies. My girls have very vivid imaginations and even though the movie didn't SHOW what happened, they knew.
