Do you know how hard it is to win at Stanford?

Extremely high academic standards and an administration that doesn't think sports are more important than education and thus won't look the other way when something bad happens.

If Stanford players got caught doing what TOSU's players did none of them would be playing the bowl game.

It's extremely tough to recruit and win at Stanford.

Plus he's a very good coach, he beat USC twice with completely inferior talent.

Let's put it this way, if I was an NFL GM and I was going to hire any college coach in the nation, it'd be him, period.

What I want out of a coach in the NFL is a guy who people / players respect, who knows the game backwards and forwards and who can out coach the other coaching staff.

That's him IMO, just watch.

He's got a possible number one pick hanging on his hip too, stay or go coach, you go I go.

Now Luck can't chose the team he's going to, but it says a lot that he'd stay in school if Jim stays, cause there's absolutely no sure fire way to end up on Jim's team that's not why he's staying, it sure looks like loyalty to me.

I agree. I love Harbaugh as a HC. I just hope & pray he doesn't end up with the Whiners. It's in their DNA. His brother is a great HC & I think he'll be even better. Their father was a great football mind & taught his sons well!!

That would be horrible.

Going to Dallas would be as bad but I can't see that ever happening.

I pray someone else needs a coach and wants him out of our division.

The Broncos tried it seems, I have this sinking feeling it's the Whiners.

He made Stanford relevant. This is the first time they've ever been to the Orange bowl. They are 4th ranked and are you even watching tonight? They are physical and smart. No stupid penalties. No showboating. They are everything you would want.

I have the feeling that is what he's going to do too. He could be a Schembechler type of figure there. When you look at what he's done at Stanford, he could win at least a couple of National Championships at Michigan.

Not even close, you'll be happier, have a longer career, be thought of as a hero and get more job satisfaction out of it, but the ego thing of the Pro game draws most of em in.

I honestly hope he takes the college job, for him and to keep him out of the Whiners back yard.

I'd guess the wild card is how competitive he is with his brother. Maybe he wants to show he can do the NFL better than him? Or, maybe he lets John have the NFL and he sticks to the college game so they can't be compared head to head? That's probably the sort of thing he's thinking about at 2 am sometime this week.

He will go to Denver in my opinion.

Denver is a much more stable organization that San Fran.

They have a leader at QB in Tebow.

They have a solid trade piece in Orton.

They have a high draft pick.

They have a great Stanford Alum who is at the Orange Bowl selling him on it as we speak in Elway.

I hope he handles the media a little better in his next job. I though he came across as quite an ass tonight. All he had to do was politely deflect the question and say that he hasn't made a decision yet and that he will talk with his family in the coming days....just like Luck did. Instead, he spent all of his energy running away from both Michelle Tafoya and again at the trophy presentation with Reece Davis, leaving them in mid-sentence. Totally classless IMO.

eh I thought he was a little aloof, but hell he knew what was coming next. A blitz of dumb questions about his future. Anybody in their right mind knew he wasn't going to answer any questions about his future tonight... why the hell do they need to ask them and disrespect the players and the University.

Yeah I was going to say that, the reason he might go to the NFL is it's the top place for a football person and he's very competitive. the reason he might stay in college is he loves working with kids and he's been in the NFL long enough to know that there are a lot of non kids in the NFL who are a pain in the neck to coach.

I don't know if that matters to Harbaugh or not, the main reason for that is not fan apathy it's changes the administration made. Harbaugh did complain about it earlier in the year but I don't think he would leave because of that because he openly talked about why it's down.

Stanford renovated the stadium I think 06, but they made several changes after that to parking. You used to drive into Stanford and literally drive off the road and park among the trees and walk to the games, people were tailgating amongst the trees. It was a huge tradition thing, and they've significantly limited that because of fears it negatively impacts the landscaping(which I'm sure it did). Stanford also had a long stretch of losing which sort of created a generation of people who would have been Stanford football fans but didn't because they sucked. So their fan base is students, and older fans.

Harbaugh complained because he wanted to be more involved in marketing the games. One of the main complaints was how they set the game times, it's not done until a week or two before the game for TV purposes, which makes it harder as a fan to plan. Jon Wilner wrote a big story about it said look they can start as early as 2 and as late as 8pm, that's a huge variance and fans have to schedule around that so many just don't come.

But it all goes back to my earlier point, at Stanford they don't believe football is bigger than education and other things.

I hope he stays one more year but I doubt it.

1. The Michigan Head coaching job
2. NFL-Carolina
3. NFL- Denver
4. NFL - SF

Where would you go? Think ownership and support.

Michigan could very well pay him the most.
In Carolina, you get a very patient owner that doesnt meddle.
in Denver, you get an owner who will spend money and a Stanford alum to work for
in SF, you get a 29 year old owner known for doing impulsive things, and it likely pays the least of all the four jobs

where do you go?
