Saw this last night. Good political conspiracy type movie. Denzel Washington was good, but probably not one of his stronger performances. Pretty freaky psychological type plot with brainwashing, implants and the like. Anybody else see this?

This movie was horribly underwhelming. Not bad, just not too good either. I'm a big Denzel fan, I love Schreiber's work, but this movie was just blah. I wasn't expecting an action movie, but I was expecting a conspiracy thriller. I got conspiracy with very little thrill. Add gross predictability, and it just didn't do much.

***spoiler***

I mean, who REALLY thought the girl was into him? They set that up VERY poorly. I was surprised it took him so long to get to the nub of that story line.

Actually, if I did that, I wouldn't have seen The Village, which I liked despite their reviews :)

THE QUESTION IS:

Have any of you seen the original. I know I harp on this ALL THE FREAKING TIME, but for the life of me, I just cant understand why Hollywood would take such an incredible film, arguably unimproveable and then remake it.

I suggest seeing the original, but like any fantastic old film, you have to be able to put yourself in the timeframe of its release for it to have an affect. Most moviegoers today, really do go just to be entertained (which is not a criticism, by the way, just an opinion) and don't want to have to think about what they are watching.

See the original. Its fantastic.

They way it's going, I wouldn't be surprised to see a remake of "Citizen Kane".

Just saw this last night.

I had read the book, never saw the 60's film, so I can't compare.

But I did think it was entertaining.

A great film? No - but it was a good midweek break from the norm.

I'd watch it when it comes out to the Movie Channels, but that would be the extent I would take it.

Ditto. It was okay, just pretty forgettable.

I saw the original this weekend. Freaky. Still not really sure what the mother's plan was, though. Was she going to stay loyal to the communists or was she so mad at what they did that she was going to betray them?
