Curious how much TSLA positive traction can retain after the Twitter deal is over. The market isn't very kind right now

to be fair, most people are also horrible with their finances and always unprepared for tomorrow. Ive made my entire career off of making those peoples situations a little better only to watch them instead use the savings to get further buried in things they cannot afford.

This quote feels apt.

meta market cap down 70% from its high last year

I tried to get Lucy to sell awhile ago she wouldn't. Zuckerberg is going to destroy the company with his stupid Metaverse and going all in.

The guy who invented their Oculus stuff came out the other day and said the Metaverse is still cool but Meta's content is "terrible."

He's a gamer. Zuckerberg is focusing on work instead of gaming

Literally the first Metaverse "product" was a game called Horizon Worlds but it was so buggy they locked it down, not sure if it's open again or not. Their long term plan yeah it involves work but right now they're trying to monetize the metaverse and apparently everyone agrees the idea of a metaverse is cool, their content is stupid.

They're losing execs left and right over it who say he just keeps throwing money at it.

yeah

Horizon worlds is okay, and its the general idea.

But, the "new oculus" is a 1500 device centered around having virtual zoom meetings that are better than zoom meetings. His entire focus right now is getting VR in the workplace. I'm sure it is awesome for his level of work. He can meet with peiople in japan from his house and it will feel real. But, average joe worker? VR is unproductive and not a good way to multitask with work. I have zero interest in plugging into a headset for 10 hours a day.

so yeah, thats not how you grow this business. The way you grow VR is with sick, consumer centric awesome VR gaming machines that are affordable and choke out the competitors. . Oculus 2 caught major fire. its a great device. The follow up being a 1500 headset that doesnt improve your gaming experience is ignoring what is making the product boom and making it something else.

its dumb.

I own an oculus, still game often, understand the product and community and feel 100% that is what he is doing wrong, but, we'll see.

I interviewed at Oculus in 2018. I think I posted it here literally one of the people I interviewed with joked to me that the problem they have is convincing people there's better ways to use it than porn.

They also took a big hit when the show Silicon Valley made fun of how some people were getting sick after using Oculus.

Wound up not getting the job they put a hiring freeze in at the time.

Cybersickness alone will keep VR away from the workplace. They'll have to solve that issue first and even if they overcome that hurdle, like you said, is VR really going to do much for normal meetings? I think the best place for VR would be for engineers, doctors, or things that actually could benefit from a 3D environment versus having conversations around a virtual meeting room to talk about stuff.

I even disagree with that person. The reason that Blu ray won over HD DVD i s because Blu ray got contract with the porn industry. Its also a big reason why the internet blew up so fast. Meta needs to embrace porn and gaming as the top two features, rake in the dough and use that to build their "windows of VR" that they are going for, not the other way around.

Oh I think they KNEW that, they just didn't want to admit that was the single biggest use of their product.

I do think for meetings, especially at the c suite level, the new VR tech they are making makes it far more real than a zoom meeting and would be awesome. But this is a feature, not a platform.

Motion sickness is getting better, part of what htye have done is limit peripheral vision and it helps.

the biggest problem with motion sickness is smooth movement IE: a roller coaster game where it moves you around. Those are horrible. The games that movement is done by teleportation also make a huge difference in reducing motion sickness.

So, the features and ways around it are there. I dont think that will be a huge problem in the near future. You can have settings for different people to use it in different ways as far as how the movement goes.

Sitting at a virtual desk or in a virtual meeting, if you do not have to "walk around" motion sickness shouldnt really happen.

I listened to zuckerbergs interview on Joe Rogans podcast and they went into a lot of detail and I truly believe the meeting idea would be a super amazing feature and way better than zoom, I just dont see companies buying thousands of VR headsets to have virtual meetings. I think its more of a big shot device so you could have a meeting with the president of south korea without being on zoom or flying but still see expressions and feel lifelike. Zoom is like an empty soul.
