Welcome, Jeff, and good luck. You have some real work to do.

I am curious - anyone know when the owners will get to vote him in or reject him? It'd be rather weird if he was in position for months and then they got to decide. Since they weren't in love with JC, I would think after a little taunting and conniving, they'll sign off.

He's doing a Q and A before the game on Sat Sept 11 with fans - you have to register apparently - be nice to have a good representation of semi-knowledgable fans there, don't you think?

Colangelo resigns as CEO of D-Backs

Early Out

Tim Tyers
The Arizona Republic
Sept. 1, 2004

Jerry Colangelo has resigned his position as chief executive officer of the Arizona Diamondbacks, effective immediately, handing the reins of the organization to CEO Elect Jeff Moorad.

"I just think doing it now is probably better for everyone involved, rather than making the break at the end of the year," Colangelo said. "There is really no story here."

Apparently, there was no outside motivation for the early exit, and the decision was Colangelo's own.

Moorad said he didn't learn Colangelo's feelings until Tuesday night and added the decision was reached Wednesday morning.

Colangelo was to serve as CEO and as an adviser to Moorad until Jan.1, when Moorad would assume full-time CEO duties.

Team President Rich Dozer will serve as interim CEO until Moorad takes control Oct.15, dropping the term "elect" from his title.

"It's fair to say Jerry was interested in making an adjustment at this time," Moorad said, addressing the media in the Diamondbacks dugout before Wednesday night's game with the Dodgers. "Under the circumstances, it seemed appropriate for me to move my start date of Jan.1 forward, so we did that."

"I'm available as necessary and as asked. At the same time, I think I'm going to be a fan for a little while."

Moorad, who attended Tuesday night's game as well as Wednesday's, said the decision to assume control earlier was not a difficult one.

"Frankly, I really wanted to follow Jerry's lead," he said. "In that regard, I think the organization has. And, at this point, as long as Jerry feels good about it, I certainly do, too."
