I think the mystery about Empire Records is of what happened to Rory Cochrane after that movie. He had a bit in Dazed in Confused, was in some AWFUL movies, showed up on a Law & Order episode, I think. He just went nowhere after that movie, and I thought he was a best part. Meanwhile Renee Zelwegger, Robin Tunney, Ethan Embry, and Liv Tyler were all allowed to continue committing crimes against acting until we couldn't take them anymore. Anthony LaPaglia was the only one who made it out alive. I'm leaving Debi Mazar out of it since she was already well established as a NJ character actor long before Empire records.

Absolutely wrong. Robin Tunney has a very nice gig right now on one of the highest rated shows on television. I'm not a fan of her character, but it's a stable job. And Zelwegger, well, she still gets movie roles.

Didn't even realize Tunney was on TV. I actually do like her, but her choices of lead roles after Empire Records was beyond suspect.

Well, as mentioned, Robin Tunney is the co-lead on The Mentalist. It's one of my favorites and although I had trouble accepting her in that role initially, I've come to appreciate her. She also had a nice role in Vertical Limit.

My wife and I didn't care for CSI but we gave the Miami version a try solely because Rory Cochrane was one of the main characters. He was really wasted on that show and they soon killed him off. He also was a regular for awhile on 24.

Personally, I think she's incredibly boring and doesn't serve much of a purpose other than to look annoyed at Jane.

How many people do you know want to sit down and watch Schindler's List again? Just because a move was important doesn't make it a classic. ;)

The same could be said about Saving Private Ryan. I don't think I could watch it again, but it was definitely a classic.

BTW, I absolutely hated There Will Be Blood and you couldn't pay me to watch it again, but there are so many people that think it is a classic that I wouldn't argue it being on a new classics list.

+1

There are a lot more movies I like, but wouldn't consider them "New Classics". Jackie Chan's First Strike and Jet Li's Unleashed, for example. I liked them and enjoyed them, but they aren't classics.

I loved The Ref, but I know not everyone has and it probably isn't a classic in many people's books.

...and just because you didn't enjoy it doesn't make it NOT a classic! ;)

:yeahthat: :D

Yeah, it was a tough watch the first time. However, I watched it again about 6 months later and was able to relax enough to really enjoy it that time. I've since watched it a few more times and while it's still powerful, the beach scene doesn't run you over like it did the first time.

One of my favorite movies. Great cast, great dialogue, it never fails to make me laugh and it holds up well over time. Sounds like a modern classic to me.

I almost walked out of Saving Private Ryan in the theater with PTSD in the first 20 minutes.

A friend of mine took their 9 year old daughter with them to see SPR. Needless to say, they didn't last long either. Despite the rating, I guess he figured it was Tom Hanks and Spielberg so how child unfriendly could it be?

Wow. That's some tough stuff for a nine-year old to take. Glad they left quickly.

Maybe I'll have to give it another watch. The whole story is hard for me to watch though, not just the initial beach scene. Just sad all around.

Yeah, the cast is really awesome and there are some super classic lines in that movie. One of my favs for sure.
