I'm shocked this show has been able to stay in the TV forum and not moved to the P&R yet. Dr Jones is poking the bear though. ;)

Probably all of them. I have about . <--- this much patience remaining for cynical people in a newsroom, especially wisecracking know-it-alls. Newsrooms just aren't like that. No one ever agrees on a perspective of the world or how to filter the news. They've painted this picture that coverage is about being ethical/moral or going for ratings, but it's just never that black-and-white. We sometimes spend days debating our coverage and never come to conclusion. The people in this show are unbearable and would be anathema to a real process.
I know nothing of this show. I just wanted to point out that Gadd doesn't like wisecracking know-it-alls. The irony blows my mind!!! :)

my other problem with this show was that it was slanted SO HEAVILY against the right... and I'm a liberal! The idea that there wasn't ONE episode or interesting news story that took the left to task was ultimately pathetic IMO.

I have no problem with anyone calling this show is basically left wing propaganda.

You hate the things in others that best reflect your own weaknesses.

Also, I'm just better at it.

The address this in the show. Their post ion is that by presenting both sides you do dilute the message. I think.

Eh, I agree to an extent, and Im pretty freaking liberal as well, but I honestly see it more of an attack on what the republican party has become, not the party itself or conservatism in general. Its a full frontal assault on who the creator sees as the source of the disgustingly low level of civil discourse, polarizing rhetoric, a lack of acceptance of differing views, and unwillingness to work together for the common good; The TEA Party. And frankly, I agree with him 1000%

Newsroom is back on for the season. Last night involved the Boston Marathon event.

Love the dialog.

snooooooooooze

I thought that was a good description for Season 2 and its soap-opera-ish relationship stories. Season 1 seemed to be all about liberal rage and Sorkin creating a platform for arguments he could win with himself.

Season 3 seems to be employing the same witty, quick fire banter, that has made the series enjoyable, but with the focus on ethics of journalism. So far, looking forward to each new episode.

Maybe I have an axe to grind, but the slamming of social media attempts to be investigative reporters endeared me to this show for the rest of the season.

My biggest problem with this season (of which there are many) is that ALL the casting are major actors. It kinda takes me out of the show. Makes it feel less real... If that makes sense.

Sorkin is getting slammed unmercifully for his penultimate episode. I believed the show was disturbing and a bit heavy-handed, but still provided thought provoking subject matter. After reading the reviews, I rewatched "Oh, Shenandoah" and still didn't understand the criticism.

So, I reread the criticism. All the reviews seemed to have judged the show 'guilty by association' due to "Rolling Stone" magazine's recent horrific handling of a rape accuser. "The Newsroom" (IMO) was trying to point out that our legal system was not so much designed to punish criminals as it was created, at it's root, to stop the innocent from being punished. This has caused a blind spot towards the crime of rape, and as terrible as that is, it is not the media's job to supplement due process of law when individual privacy and reputation is at stake. There are numerous examples of trial by media, and the lynch mob reaction caused by it, that have been proven completely wrong but irreversibly damaging to the innocent. However, the reviews of this show decided that this subject had more "Likes" and "Retweets" for the opposing view, and declared social-media's popularity contest the Righteous Award as well. Sorkin must be rolling his eyes at the irony of this criticism.

I also agreed with the show's metaphor that new-media and old-media can not coexist.
One has caused the death of the other.
The blog critics and the online equivalent to tabloid newspapers attempts to belittle this scene only strengthen my belief.

Overall, I thought this was good TV. Except the airplane segment, that was crap.

Thought the final episode was excellent as was the whole series. The romances were a bit of pablum throughout, but that is a necessary ingredient to keep the audience broad. Critics have a job to do, which I believe is to stir the pot. I don't need a critic to validate or invalidate my opinion. I consider them to be "pseuds".

Their "guest" cast this season has been very interesting. They slammed the door shut with no possibility of a next season.

I fully expected a big happy bow tying of story arcs, and pink unicorns shooting rainbows out their butts while granting the characters all their wishes. However, somewhere around the impromptu jam session at a funeral I began to be glad this show was ending. Out with a whimper.

I had the episode 2 weeks ago as the last bone. This actual one blew. Sappy beyond abysmal.

agreed. I kinda hate watched the show, but thought the finale was laughably bad.
