'THE O.C.' LAUNCHES GAY STORY
Source: Star Magazine

"The O.C." has come up with a new storyline for Marissa (played by Mischa Barton). In January, Marissa will find that she is attracted to another woman. Until now, Marissa has been searching for the perfect man. The gay subplot forces Marissa to explore her sexuality.

Mischa Barton, 18, is scheduled to lock lips in a lesbian kiss with an undisclosed actress on an episode of The O.C. later this season, says show creator Josh Schwartz. But Star has learned it won't be her first onscreen same-sex smooch. It will be at least her second. In 2002, Barton made out with actress Evan Rachel Wood, then just 14, on ABC's Once and Again. Barton played a closeted gay high-schooler. In addition, Barton had a supporting role in 2001's Lost and Delirious, a movie about boarding school girls in Manhattan who experiment with lesbian sex. Barton's reps had no comment.

Family Ties Draw George Lucas to 'The O.C.'
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com)
By Kate O'Hare

Josh Schwartz, the twentysomething creator of FOX's teen soaper "The O.C.," would like to think it was just the sheer quality of his show that drew "Star Wars" creator George Lucas to do a guest shot in the episode airing Thursday, May 12, at 8 p.m. ET.

He could think that, but he'd be wrong.

"It was a combination of things," Schwartz says. "I wrote a very passionate letter appealing to him. His daughter is apparently a big fan of the show, and I think that was probably the thing that pushed it over the top. He's a pretty shrewd guy, and it was a good way to talk about [his movie], but I think his daughter convinced him to do that. For that, we're all very grateful."

It turns out Schwartz is right about that.

"They asked me to come and do this," Lucas says in comments recorded during filming, "and my daughter is a huge fan of the show, so basically she insisted that I come down."

With "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" due out in theaters on Thursday, May 19, completing Lucas' pair of "Star Wars" trilogies, "The O.C." was lucky to catch the Northern California film mogul during one of his rare downtimes.

"I just finished the movie last week," Lucas says, "and I start my press tour next week, so I'm in this one little space between finishing the movie and starting the promotion of it."

In the episode, Lucas expresses interest in the graphic novel created by Newport Beach teen Seth Cohen (Adam Brody), which forces Seth to make a difficult decision about his relationship with classmate Summer (Rachel Bilson). To make things more complicated, Lucas invites Seth to dinner and offers him advice.

"I play myself in the episode," Lucas says. "I'm in a restaurant, and I'm being pitched a comic book to turn into a movie. ... They've been fun to work with. The nice thing about television, it's a community. So everybody knows everybody, and everybody's worked with everybody. Everybody's much more relaxed. It's a much easier environment to work in."

"In this episode," Schwartz says, "It's our junior prom. It's the 'Under the O-Sea' theme, which I've borrowed from 'Back to the Future.' Seth has to make the choice that all teenage guys have to make: Do you go to prom, or do you go meet with George Lucas? I think it's a universal quandary that we've all faced at some point in our lives."

Working with Lucas turned out to be a positive experience. "He was amazing," Schwartz says. "He was an unbelievably sweet guy, really nice, really humble. It was a good model for everybody. Here's, like, probably the most successful filmmaker in the history of Hollywood, at least in the last 50 years, and he couldn't be a nicer, more grounded guy.

"He sat down, the camera came on, I thought he was really funny. He was really loose. He was improvising. It was great. I thought he really came off."

As for "Revenge of the Sith," Lucas says, "I think it turned out really well. I'm very happy with it. It's very exciting and very tragic, but I think ultimately a good experience."

The season finale of "The O.C." is also coming out on Thursday, May 19, and Schwartz says, "Season finale is going to be big, and it's going to be emotional, and it's going to be exciting. It kind of reminds me of the Tijuana episode we did last year. It's going to have all the emotion of last year's finale, but with a lot more action. It's going to be pretty surprising.

"I didn't turn in the last page. No one from the cast or the crew got the last page. There might be a couple characters coming back from the past, sort of revisiting the show, and I think not who everyone will be expecting to see."

Regarding plans for next year, Schwartz says, "Year three, for us, is going to be senior year, so obviously that's a huge event in these kids' lives, and for their parents as well. So we'll be dealing with all sorts of things, like what does the future hold, college, graduation, all those kind of gigantic, kind of epic events in high school life."

Its a great show. Adam Brody and the girl that plays Summer rule the show. I'll admit I've seen every episode and I own Season 1 on DVD.

The Sun Sets on The O.C.
Source: Fox
January 4, 2007

The sun will set for the last time on "The O.C." when the series ends its four-season run Thursday, Feb. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Fox. The countdown has begun, with all-original episodes airing from Thursday, Jan. 4 through the last episode on Feb. 22.

"The O.C." stars Peter Gallagher (Sandy Cohen), Kelly Rowan (Kirsten Cohen), Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan Atwood), Adam Brody (Seth Cohen), Melinda Clarke (Julie Cooper), Rachel Bilson (Summer Roberts), Autumn Reeser (Taylor Townsend) and Willa Holland (Autumn Reeser).

Set in Orange County, California, "The O.C." premiered in August 2003. It follows a group of friends and families whose lives were changed by the arrival of an outsider Ryan Atwood to their ocean-side community of Newport Beach.

"The O.C." revived the teen drama genre while including humorous and heartfelt adult storylines. Shortly after its summer premiere, "The O.C." was a pop culture phenomenon its actors are household names and its indie music (and subsequent six soundtracks) and hip California wardrobe are sought-after in stores. The shows Newport Beach locale also has become a popular tourist attraction as fans visit the real locations featured in their favorite episodes.

"'The O.C.' Season Four finale will also be the series finale. This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close," said Josh Schwartz, creator and executive producer of "The O.C." "Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top. It has been an amazing experience and a great run. For a certain audience, at a certain time, 'The O.C.' has meant something. For that we are grateful."

Excellent. Hey! Everyone! YaYo is happy about the demise of a show he/she doesnt like! Excellent!

Back to 1 vs. 100 with you!

Hmm.

Guess I should explain. I just don't think it's a good show anymore. The first couple seasons were tolerable but I just think it's over. So, I'm glad it's going because I hope something better will replace it's time slot.

Doubtful.

THe OC was good this year, and it's too bad they blew it. I know it sucked after season 2 or 3...but it really got better.

Fox sucks anyways...they cancel a lot of good shows...Arrested Development, Firefly, etc.

Mike, You have to be feeling the pain now. I just watched this weeks episode on the DVR, and aside from Seth's quirky antics, this show has lost all steam and brings zero zippo nada to the table. Its not even silly funny anymore. Its just plain bad. Ill watch to the end in some sort of a morbid fascination thing, but really, Che? LAME. Jean Frenchy? LAME!!! The premise of Kirstin and **** mom still being friends LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This show stinks.

Well, it's almost over soon, so I guess that's a good thing :)

But yeah...the Otter...and apparently Che thinks Seth is his otter? So what's that mean, he's going gay now?

Gay twist? Sure! Why Not! Maybe since McG didnt make the requisite 5 years on the air to get this show into syndication, he's going to burn it to the ground on his way out... who knows.

Fun finale...the first season was great, the last few sort of ugh, but I'm sad to see it go. They were all great characters.
