Earl Cochran of Alabama State is the "other" guy in the supplemental draft aside from Tony Hollings, and given the state of our pass rush I think the Cardinals are insane to pass on this guy in the low rounds.
He played DE at 6'4" and 225 last season and got 9.5 sacks and almost 20 tackles for loss. According to ESPN he's gotten up to 260 at his workout but still ran 4.8.
His school plays in the SWAC with other of what are now referred to as the "Historically black colleges" such as grambling and bethune-cookman. So competition level is an issue but the conference has been turning out more pro prospects lately so I don't think you can discredit him.
I only saw the dude play once (against Tuskegee, I just tuned in to see 5 minutes of 2002 draft pick Drayton Florence) but he was completely unstoppable, albeit against a left tackle who was fatter than he was tall.
He will be raw as hell but in terms of size and athleticism, if not production, he sounds a lot like Calvin Pace now that he's up to 260 and I am starting the campaign to use a 6th or 7th rounder on him.
After all, what the hell is a 7th rounder???? Take a risk, Cards.
Wish I had seen the guy more than once but from what I saw he was the only guy on the field for Alabama State and at his level of competition, he excelled. Now that he's added size, he sounds even better.
