Earl Cochran of Alabama State is the "other" guy in the supplemental draft aside from Tony Hollings, and given the state of our pass rush I think the Cardinals are insane to pass on this guy in the low rounds.

He played DE at 6'4" and 225 last season and got 9.5 sacks and almost 20 tackles for loss. According to ESPN he's gotten up to 260 at his workout but still ran 4.8.

His school plays in the SWAC with other of what are now referred to as the "Historically black colleges" such as grambling and bethune-cookman. So competition level is an issue but the conference has been turning out more pro prospects lately so I don't think you can discredit him.

I only saw the dude play once (against Tuskegee, I just tuned in to see 5 minutes of 2002 draft pick Drayton Florence) but he was completely unstoppable, albeit against a left tackle who was fatter than he was tall.

He will be raw as hell but in terms of size and athleticism, if not production, he sounds a lot like Calvin Pace now that he's up to 260 and I am starting the campaign to use a 6th or 7th rounder on him.

After all, what the hell is a 7th rounder???? Take a risk, Cards.

Wish I had seen the guy more than once but from what I saw he was the only guy on the field for Alabama State and at his level of competition, he excelled. Now that he's added size, he sounds even better.

Ed could you please explain how the supplemental draft works and what it means when you say:

"After all, what the hell is a 7th rounder???? Take a risk, Cards. "

I really don't understand how it works that they would only give up a 7th rounder???

Supplemental draft

all teams get achance to take these two guys, it just a matter of who is willing to roll the dice first. The first round will feature everyone saying "pass" in the same order as the draft this past April. Looks like Holings might go 2nd or 3rd round, if so, the team selecting him forfeits their pick in that corresponding round in the April 2004 "common" NFL Draft. Based upon Ed B's report, I have no problem risking a 7th rounder on the kid from Alabama St. If he's that good, we might need to go higher.

If I recall correctly, both Dave Brown (Giants) and Steve Walsh (Cowboys) were taken in the first round of the Supplemental Draft in years past. I recall the Cards looking closely at Mike Wahle from Navy a few years back in the Supplemental draft, but we passed on him and he has been a decent pro for 4+ years.

Once again, optimism springs eternal and I am convinced the Cards will make a strong run for the playoffs. Can't wait for July 25 and the daily camp reports!

The Cards selected Timm Rosenbach in the supplemental draft. Rob Moore was selected by the Jets in the supplemental draft as well.

My understanding is that teams submit a sealed "bid' of sorts stating what round of pick they are willing to give up for a guy. In cases of tie, the team with the worse record gets the player.

So if no one offered a pick for Cochran and we offered a 7th, we'd get him. If we offered a 7th and the Bears offered a 5th, they would get him.

That is my understanding of the process. It is very convoluted and not well understood. There's some weird stuff about teams being assigned point values to weight picks and stuff that I don't get at all.

We are reactive not proactive. The sooner we all admit this, the easier it will be on us fans.

If a team picks a player in the suplimental draft.... do they get more money to sign him?

Does it count against next years draft pool money?

With two first rounders to sign, I was just curious if we did pick him up, where would the funds come form to sign him?

Question: Who was Terrell Suggs? (Well, you have to admit there's a similarity).
