Saints, LB Lofton come to terms on 5-year deal

The New Orleans Saints have reached agreement on a five-year deal with former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Curtis Lofton.

The 25-year-old middle linebacker led the Falcons in tackles last season with 147. He also had a career-best two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.

Saturday called Manning to explain Pack choice

New Packers center Jeff Saturday called Peyton Manning as soon as he signed his deal with Green Bay, he told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Many expected Saturday to sign with whichever team landed Manning. But Saturday told the newspaper in a telephone interview on Saturday that the Packers were a better fit for him than the Denver Broncos would have been.

League sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Saturday's deal is for $7.75 million, including $4 million in 2012.

Samuel could be shipped to Titans soon

Amid rumblings and reports that the Titans are interested in Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel, the move could soon be coming to fruition.

Derrick Gunn of CSNPhilly.com reports that Samuel could be traded to the Titans within the next few days.

Per Gunn, the Eagles would receive a conditional third-round pick. Which could mean that the pick would come in the 2013 draft based on Samuel’s performance in 2012, since the only condition that would apply before the 2012 draft would relate to signing Samuel to a new contract.

Source: Texans do two-year deal with Donnie Jones

A league source tells Florio that punter Donnie Jones has agreed to a two-year deal with the Houston Texans.

Jones, who turns 32 before the season, spent the last five years punting for the Rams. His 37.0 net average in 2011 was the worst of that tenure, and ranked 31st in the NFL.

A league source confirms that Smith’s one-year deal with the Rams has a base salary of $1 million. Per the source, another $1.5 million is available via roster bonuses, presumably paid out on a per-game basis.

Chargers add Roscoe Parrish

Per a league source, the Chargers have agreed to terms with former Bills receiver Roscoe Parrish on a one-year deal.

Primarily a return specialist, Parrish had spent all seven of his NFL seasons with the Bills after joining the team via round two of the 2005 draft. He appeared in only two games last season, missing the remainder with an ankle injury.
