I feel a little guilty for these kinds of threads.
Championing for one guy usually means taking a paycheck from another.
That's not a nice thing to do.

But neither Pendergast or Davis have been able to get the job done. Now it's time to try again.

In a perfect world I'd love for John Fox to join the team.
Super well respected and knowledgeable, he'd bring credibility and swagger to the defense. Fox is a great coach in the league.

Pro Career: Fox became the third coach of the Carolina Panthers on January 26, 2002. Prior to getting his first head coaching gig, Fox spent five years as the Giants defensive coordinator. He was a consultant to the Rams in 1996, following a two-year stint with the Oakland Raiders. Before joining Oakland, Fox was the secondary coach in San Diego in 1992 and 1993. Fox started his NFL coaching career with Pittsburgh as a defensive back coach from 1989-1991, overseeing the NFL's top-rated pass defense in 1990.

Failing that, here's some other guys I'm interested in learning more about, because I'm a realist I've tried to pick names that have some experience with teams that run a 3-4 (or just really intriguing job histories). If you have names of your own or know a little something about these guys, share with the class.:

anybody with the last name Ryan...... I would not mind giving Kevin Green a look, but we would need a good DB coach to go along with him.

Wiz must decide what defensive philosphy he wants & what fits the personel best. With that said I think he wants to run a 3-4.

3-4-Kevin Greene-I've been touting him for sometime. Passionate, fiery leader that is much needed for a mostly stoic coaching staff.

4-3-John Fox-highly successful Dcoordinator for Gmen. Again, passionate & vocal.

I have no idea what Don Capers is doing right now but he's always been a pretty big 3-4 guy.

Another name is Winston Moss. He's the asst. HC/ ILB coach for GB. I'd rather him than Kevin Greene but I really don't know which one would be better. Being given the Asst. HC tag lends me to believe Moss is more highly though of.

John Fox makes $6M this year and while he will obviously take a paycut to be a D coordinator he will still get more than what we will pay.

I'll bet Donnie Henderson is made DC after Davis is fired.

that's my fear too. I mentioned Fox before because he'll get fired and in a perfect world they'd hire Grimm to replace him and then we'd hire Fox, but Fox will want too much.

The Raiders really messed up the other half of my plan which was they fire Tom Cable and we hire him as offensive line coach.

That assistant head coach title prevents him from leaving to be a coordinator.

I posted his name in another thread as well, about possible DC's. I only posted him because I heard/read somewhere a while back that his contract is set to expire.

I've already listed a handful of names who may be available:

Link: Offseason Needs part 1 - DC

Another name I'll add to the list, is Jerry Gray, who is currently the defensive backs coach for Seattle. What is odd is, most coaches enter the league as a position coach and learn their way up. Jerry on the other hand, started his coaching career as DC for the Buffalo Bills in the early 2000's, where his defenses ranked #2 in total defense in 2003 and 2004 and within the top 10 every year he was their DC. He's been pretty successful since Buffalo as well, being the Redskins DB's coach and he's done a pretty good job coaching up the DB's in Seattle considering the talent he has.

I don't know how coaching AW and DRC to their worst years gets you a promotion but you may be onto something, that seems to work in the case of Rod Graves.

John Fox is from a 4-3 background. It's what he ran in New York and the entire time in Carolina. He's not coming here.

I like:

1. Greg Manusky, DC, San Francisco 49ers: born August 12, 1966, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Linebacker Colgate 1983-87. Pro linebacker Washington Redskins 1988-1990. Minnesota Vikings 1991-93, Kansas City Chiefs 1994-99. Pro coach: Washington 2001, San Diego Chargers 2002-06, joined 49ers in 2007.

2. Mike Nolan, DC, Miami Dolphins: born March 7, 1959, Baltimore. Safety Oregon 1978-1980. No pro playing experience. College coach: Oregon 1981, Stanford 1982-83, Rice 1984, Louisiana State 1985-86. Pro coach: Denver Broncos 1987-1992, 2009, New York Giants 1993-1996, Washington Redskins 1997-1999, New York Jets 2000, Baltimore Ravens 2001-04. Head coach: San Francisco 49ers 2005-08. Joined the Dolphins in 2010. (NB: Nolan may be available if Sparano and his staff are fired after the season. It's possible that the Cards'll pick up both coordinators from Miami, because Dan Henning, their current OC, is Whis's offensive mentor.)

Jeff FitzGerald, linebackers, Cincinnatti Bengals: born April 18, 1960, Burbank, Calif. Linebacker Oregon State 1980. No pro playing experience. College coach: Cincinnati 1985-86, Alabama 1987-89, San Diego State 1994-97. Pro coach: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1990-93, Washington Redskins 1998-99, Arizona Cardinals 2000-2003, Ravens 2004-2007, joined Bengals in 2008. (Would he come back to Arizona? I don't remember his time on the staff very well)

Those are some names that I'm thinking of.

I'd like Nolan and Henning. Can they bring Dansby back with them too.

Apparently, Dan Henning has told sources that he intends to retire after this season ends.

Henning has told multiple people he intends to retire after this season, leading to a general understanding that Sparano will go in a different direction without having to fire him.

Oh and as for Kevin Greene and Keith Butler, it wouldn't stun me one bit to see either of them winding up as Defensive Coordinator wherever Bill Cowher winds up.
