not that it matters much...but it was mentioned on the radio the other day that jamir still makes him permanent home in phoenix...seems he and his family were ready to relocate to cleveland this offseason assuming he would get a contract..but since that appears unlikely - they still live here....I would like to have him come in and at least have his achilles checked out..that is a obviously a huge issue.

Jamir is 29...he turns 30 in november of 2003. Seems impossible that he is that young..seems ages ago since he played here...

Jamir was drafted in the 1st round in 1994. He was 20.

He played 5 seasons for us (94,95,96,97,98). In his rookie year he was Seth Joyner's backup, and primarily used (although not enough) as a pass rush LB off the left side, if I remember correctly.

As for him playing DE, I remember Buddy Ryan once saying that Jamir was asking him in practice to be a DE, and Buddy's response was something like "You gotta know what you're doing on 2 feet before I'll let you put a hand on the ground." I dunno why I remember that but some of buddy's comments just kinda always stuck with me. Who knows if Jamir can play DE.

I've never met Jamir, but the reaction his coaches and teams have to him leads me to believe he's the classic jock, tons of talent...but an itsy bitsy little brain.

HEY HEY HEY!! DO NOT ANGRY UP THE BLOOD! Plus he would never make the trip from Dallas to Arizona if it were to happen. I would PERSONALLY make sure it wouldn't happen!

P.S. - Section 11 you are a good man. But don't post after your 35th beer. Dave Campo? Obvoiusly Campo came to your house, put a gun to your head, and demanded that you posted that.

Jamir

Hmmm....

6'5" and 255?!?! I don't think he would be big enough to play DE. And I don't think (with age and injury) he would be fast enough to play LB.

Put him on the wagon with T.Jones.

Peace

Whats wrong with Dave Campo as D.C.?
Classic!

Graves indicated in his interview yesterday that the Cards had been in touch with Jamir's agent (the incredible shrinking Leigh Steinberg), that he was in no hurry to do anything right now and that, if Jamir is "healthy and able", he could help this team.

Jamir was here back in those crazy, crazy days before the Internet was big, so I can only go by what I read and heard from afar. But my perception of him was: A physically talented manchild with a lot of growing up to do.

So now, he's apparently physically talented and nicked up. It's hard to know how much he's grown up. (That's for the Cardinal brass to decide).

Maybe I'm wrong - and just beginning to get the hang of Graves' "body language" - but I just don't get the feeling the Cards are going to make an aggressive run at Jamir.

Judging by some of his previous moves, I get the feeling Rod will make contact with (and say the right things about) a guy the Cards aren't sure they want (in order to show the fans he's trying). But then nothing will happen and the matter will gradually disappear.

(Now watch them sign Jamir).

Cleveland now has Campo, and we still have Marmie.

Who's better off at DC?

Didn't B-lo bring in a guy as assistant head coach (the former Bungles coach or something?) for the D? Wouldn't we have been better of there, too?

Dick LeBeau. Another DC we should have looked at.

DL and Takeo Spikes, I would bet, are going to vastly improve Buffalo's D.

Ok, so Campo's a bad choice because he wasn't a good head coach (under Jones)?

Is that the only thinking here?
Because I'm wondering how Marmie stacks up if that's the case.

You see, that is a tough one. I am originally from Northern Jersey were a lot of Giants live. I met up with Seahorn at my local gym and he looked like he could play. Well, Seahorn answered that question......he can't.

When you see a proffessional Football player amongst the common man you say......D*mn, that guy looks like he can do anything, but that is amongst the common man. The NFL is a whole different world.

For example Lenard Davis. He is not of this world. NOBODY can be that big and strong.

i'll never forget on a play when the ball was loose on the ground and jamir shoved two of the offensive players on the ground so that someone else could scoop up the ball. the guy was fast and strong and if he is even at 75% of the level he used to play at would help our defense no matter where he was at.

Time runs out for Miller

By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

A man without a team, unrestricted free-agent linebacker Jamir Miller is now a player without a contract offer, as well.

Wary of waiting for Miller to decide where he would play in 2003, or even if he planned to return to the field following an Achilles injury that sidelined him all of last season, the Cleveland Browns have withdrawn their one-year proposal to the nine-year veteran.

Although he never publicly set a deadline, Browns team president Carmen Policy hinted very broadly in recent days that time was running out on Miller, a Pro Bowl participant in 2001. With the team poised to begin an organized training stretch next week, the Browns sought a response to their proposal, the only offer Miller had on the table.

And when Miller balked at the one-year offer -- which included a $1 million singing bonus, a base salary of about $700,000, and the ability to dramatically increase the value of the deal through incentives -- the proposal was withdrawn.

Two club sources who insisted Miller is done in Cleveland said negotiations are not expected to be revisited. In fact, Policy apprised agent Leigh Steinberg of that fact in writing.

Miller, 29, was released by the Browns early in the free agency period. That maneuver was pre-arranged, since the Browns had written a $14 million roster bonus they never intended to pay into his contract, to allow Miller to test the market. The feeling was that, if the team maintained an open dialogue with Miller and Steinberg, the linebacker might eventually re-sign.

Despite his visits with the Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Bucs the last two months, Miller did not generate strong interest on the free agent market, in part because he was still recovering from the Achilles injury. The Ravens did make an offer, one believed to have been for one year and similar to the Cleveland proposal, but lost interest in Miller when they drafted Arizona State defensive end Terrell Suggs in the first round of the '03 lottery two weeks ago.

That left the Browns as Miller's only viable suitor but Steinberg said the team's plans to use him only as a situational pass-rusher, and recurring problems with the Achilles injury, caused some doubts. Indeed, there have been recent rumors Miller is considering retiring if the Achilles injury does not show progress.

"There's some question in his mind as to whether he could play (in 2003)," Steinberg told The Akron Beacon-Journal, while also noting that Miller still viewed himself as a starting-caliber performer, and not a role player.

A first-round choice of the Arizona Cardinals in 1994, and generally viewed as one of the NFL's top athletes at his position despite a habitual lack of production, Miller joined the Browns as an unrestricted free agent in 1999. He posted a career season in 2001, with 13 sacks, more than he had registered in the three previous seasons combined. For his efforts he was voted to a berth in his first Pro Bowl game.

But in the preseason opener, he suffered the Achilles injury, and was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

The former UCLA star sought to have his contract upgraded after that Pro Bowl season but, while the Browns did enhance the incentives package, they declined to make major changes or to extend the deal. Instead, the prohibitive $14 million roster bonus was added as a mechanism that would force Cleveland to either restructure the contract this spring or release Miller outright.

The club chose the latter.

What I should have said--

Is, I have watched what he put in his cart, being so close to him, and he was very carefully chosing lots of fresh fruits and veggies and that told me something about his habits, which is a good thing!!

The Browns don't want Miller either

Looks like Jamir is still being a head case about contract negotiations. He did the same thing when he was with the Cards. I say---NO to Jamir Miller.

Browns withdraw Miller offer
Free-agent linebacker's agent cites desire for large role as reason contract not accepted
By Patrick McManamon
Beacon Journal staff writer

CLEVELAND - Jamir Miller's time with the Browns is over.

The Browns withdrew their contract offer to the free-agent linebacker Thursday night and told Miller's agent, Leigh Steinberg, that they would move on without the player, Steinberg said Friday.

``Its understandable,'' Steinberg said. ``Because we had been in negotiations for some period of time. Obviously they had made proposals that Jamir didn't find acceptable. And it wasn't just one proposal; there were various options. There's some sadness there (on Miller's part) because obviously as Jamir began the process at the beginning of the off-season, his whole desire was to return to the Browns.

``But their projected use of him appeared to be more limited than the role he had played in his Pro Bowl, 13-sack season. Jamir's feeling has been that if he is going to play football that he could be a full-time contributor.''

The Browns' plans were to use Miller as a situational pass rusher. Steinberg said Miller wanted to play every down. That issue, not money, was what prompted him to not accept the team's offers, Steinberg said.

Steinberg added that Miller recently has been having trouble with the Achilles tendon he tore in the preseason last year.

``He's got some hard thinking to do,'' Steinberg said. ``He did visit a doctor (a foot specialist) in Los Angeles (Thursday) because there has been some swelling in the Achilles area of his foot. Part of the hesitation that occurred in these last couple weeks has been that his Achilles has really been bothering him and has not felt right.

``There's some question in his mind as to whether he could play (this year).''

Browns President Carmen Policy would not discuss the specifics of the letter he wrote Steinberg, but did say the Browns had waited long enough.

``I've tried 100 different ways to nicely say the time is now -- if he wants a deal with the Cleveland Browns he should do it now,'' Policy said. ``That plea has fallen on deaf ears -- or he has no incentive or interest in following through on it.''

With ``quarterback school'' starting next week, Policy said the team wants Miller signed and in Cleveland.

``He had to start getting back to being the kind of Cleveland Brown he was the year he went to the Pro Bowl,'' Policy said. ``We feel that it's just not going to work unless he really makes an effort, and we haven't seen that effort.''

Not re-signing Miller means the only Brown to reach the Pro Bowl since the team returned in 1999 will not be back.

The Browns feel strongly, though, that they made a sincere and strong effort to bring Miller back.

One offer the team had on the table included a $1 million signing bonus. The Browns felt the offer was more than fair, given that Miller was coming back from a serious injury and incentives could have earned Miller more money.

``Carmen has been honest and up front in all of the discussions we've had, and certainly we couldn't have asked for more in the way he's conducted the discussions,'' Steinberg said.

As a free agent, Miller talked to the Browns and visited Tampa Bay and Baltimore. The Ravens were very eager to sign Miller, but he never responded to their offer. The Ravens ended discussions with Miller after drafting Terrell Suggs.

The Browns felt that was the opening the team might need, but he still did not accept the club's offer.

``His sole focus was returning to the Browns and spending the remainder of his career there,'' Steinberg said. ``His intention was to move his family there full time. He had every hope and expectation that he would be playing a vital role for them. But, again, in the role that the Browns outlined he would be more of a situation player.''

Miller came to the Browns as a free agent prior to the 1999 season. When he started that year strong, the Browns tore up his deal and gave him a new one, then extended it through 2003.

In 2001, Miller had the best season of his career with 114 tackles and 13 sacks. He was named the team's Player of the Year by the local chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America and went to the Pro Bowl.

But shortly after returning, he asked for his contract -- which called for him to make $3.475 million in 2002 and $3.975 million in '03 -- to be renegotiated. Part of his demand was a signing bonus in excess of $10 million.

The Browns declined to make a major adjustment but did put new incentives in the '02 deal. The relationship between Miller and Coach Butch Davis became strained when Miller missed most of the team's off-season workouts. He tore his Achilles in the first preseason game, which ended his season and effectively ended the contract talks.

After the season, the Browns honored a commitment they had made to Miller by putting a $14 million roster bonus in his contract. The team knew it wouldn't pay the bonus, but also knew not paying it would allow Miller to test the free agent market.

The Browns felt confident that once Miller tested the market, he would see the team's offer was fair.

Things seemed to be working, except Miller never accepted the offer.

Now the Browns move on with the young linebackers Davis drafted the past two seasons.
