WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING? TOO MUCH STUFF GOING ON! TOO MUCH STUFF GOING ON! DANGER!

This is one of the most bizarre by exciting offseasons I've ever seen--and the Suns are right in the thick of virtually every little rumor out there, from Kobe and Tmac to Shaquille O'Neal.

Stop the madness!!

Trying to follow those rumors and make a logical conclusion what the current offer is is like a big poker game.

Colangelo probably knows he has the best possible offer for TMac if needed so he tries to lowball Orlando at first and raise the offer in small steps knowing he is still holding the trump card.

Is that a good analogy?;)

I keep thinking, or perhaps just hoping, the Suns have a reason and a plan already in place for all this cap money they have freed up. I just keep repeating the Suns management know what their doing and have a master plan.

Please Suns management, prove me right.

I keep thinking that as well. Since the Marbury trade, they seem to have been marching to a plan hatched by that trade.

Early after the trade, I remember Jerry C stating that they were going to lose someone in the expansion draft, and that they needed to. It was something I felt he was serious about. As it turns out, he was the only one that was able to dump significant salary via the expansion draft. They needed to do it, and they did it.

I also remember reading that he also said that their plan was this summer, not next summer. Getting rid of White, spending the draft pick, indicates that it is this summer, not next, or he would've been more reluctant to give up the pick to lose White.

I believe, and also hope, that my trust in the shrewdness of the front office will make this all look good at the end of the day. I too just keeping saying that to myself.

But, that STUPID trade of Googs still ticks me to no end, and takes a notch off of their shrewdness-meter. But that was all about money, and they were preparing to sell.

So, c'mon C's... show us your stuff!

Usually when I come to this message board I try to read all of the new posts in each thread. Most of the time that's about 5-6 threads that have something new in them. Lately if I'm gone an hour or two I come back and there are new posts in about 20 different threads. It takes me forever. I basically missed that entire thread on the state of the board the other day. I couldn't believe it.

Dylan, George, you guys are up late. What's going on?

This is a curious franchise. They have great luck in the draft, yet gave away three picks to overpay for Hardaway. They makes some great trades like Rogers/Delk for JJ and the rights to Jacobsen. Yet this is the same group that sent Thuder Dan for perpetually injured Hot Rod Wlliams. They do a brilliant job at getting Manning cheap yet turn around and grossly overpay Longley and Googs.

This "boom-bust" element bothers me a lot. Except for Barkley and maybe Kidd, most of their deals for "high end" players have been doubtful if not disasterous. I keep hoping they will be reasonable and walk away when the bidding goes to high, but they've screwed up before.

I don't think the problem with the Penny Hardaway deal was necessarily that they gave too much for him. It was that they signed a player with serious injury problems to a huge, guaranteed deal. Although McGrady's injury problems are not nearly as bad as Hardaway's were I still worry about them. Hardaway's contract was a regular maximum contract. Tracy McGrady is going to be getting the super max. His extension will start at over $15 million. On top of that the Phoenix Suns will be giving away a much more than they did in the Hardaway deal.

I'm against giving up Shawn Marion, JJ, and #7 draft pick. If there were no questions about McGrady's work ethic, attitude, or especially his health I would probably say that you do what you have to to get him. But there are those questions, and they scare me.

I couldn't agree more.

BTW, my point on the Hardaway deal was not just the contract but that the Suns weren't really competing with anyone. Everyone was scared off by his injury record and it has been said that no one else was within $20 million if that close.

Obviously the competition for T-Mac is more serious, but all the rumors seem to be coming out of Orlando except for the Houston deal. Guys like Gambo will repeat what other rumor mongers say, but no one attributes anything to Suns insiders.

Then they turn around and get a #1 for Longley... but then lest we forget the Robey debacle!

You're right, there have been some busts (which I probably was trying to forget)!

With Hardaway, I think we all expected that to turn out better, bad luck maybe there.

I feel strongly as you said tho, if the price is too high for Mac, then leave it. Just leave it.

Man, it would be great to get just 5 minutes with Jerry, and be able to ask him, or put a bug in their office!!! They're sitting back and hearing all these rumors, and for all we know they are just laughing. We've not really heard much talk from them regarding Mac, just the occasional denial.

I am one of those late-night people... I like to enjoy just checking out the board when I can relax and really enjoy it. My job has a lot of flexibility in it, so I just take advantage of it. Sometimes in the day, I am too busy to really get into it and enjoy it.

That was kinda crazy the other day on the state of the board. I'm here for the sports stuff, try not to get too caught up in that other stuff. Go with the flow I always say!!

that's great. In the end I think most of us are here because we love NBA basketball, the Phoenix Suns, and discussing the two of them with other good fans. It's fun.

It's nice to know there are other night owls out there.

IMO, you just cant pass up on mcgrady. I think a package of marion/johnson/jacobson would do it. Then do the mentioned chandler trade in the bickley thread. I just dont see how you can pass up on mcgrady. I mean two good players dont equal one great one.
